I assembled the landing gear. I guess I'll take care of the markings, et al, before attaching these. There is more to these but not until I get them in the wheel wells. --John 4
John Masters Posted November 17, 2022 Author Posted November 17, 2022 By mid-afternoon tomorrow I will be pretty much free to do what I wish all weekend. That means I want to wrap this one up in a certain amount of style. The stencils will come from the kit and the rest from the Xtradecal sheet. I also want to seat something else and get a move on with the P-38 paint job... I should probably spend some time in the stash, organizing, collating and otherwise drooling over what 2023 may, or may not, have in store for me. --John 6
John Masters Posted November 18, 2022 Author Posted November 18, 2022 The kit decals are very nice. I'll be saving what's left for other builds, I hope. Perhaps something Belgian? Stencils. One side is much the same as the other. Some of them are excruciatingly small... The topside stencils are very few. In order for the wheel well bulge to accommodate the walkway decals (which is a nice solid clear piece) I scored the appropriate area with a small 'X'. They settled down very nicely. The rudder Battenberg is in two pieces. They fit very nicely, except the very bottom part of the lower half, where it slopes just a tad onto the fuselage. Once it had been on a few minutes I 'rolled' a curved blade gently to give it a bit of a fold, a hinge, so-to-speak. Settles right down after that. There are no squadron logos on this aircraft...i.e., no frolicking dolphin badge. The underside... ..and up top, including the nose wheel door 'A'... I've given the decals a bit of solvent and I will let that dry thoroughly. I still have to accent a few panels here and there tomorrow. Nothing dramatic. After that I'll give it some gloss varnish to seal the decals so I can handle the aircraft more easily. Then the undercarriage and done! --John 8
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Now that's looking smart John. I’m doing two similar things myself VMF/VMA-214 “BlackSheep” and VF-74 “Be-Deviler’s” for the USMC/USN. If I were to do the RAF it would be either 29, 92, or 111 Squadrons.

John Masters Posted November 19, 2022 Author Posted November 19, 2022 And that, my friends, is that. Don't worry. I'll straighten the pitot... From beneath... I'll have it in on the tarmac and in the gallery tomorrow! --John 4
John Masters Posted November 20, 2022 Author Posted November 20, 2022 19 Sqn looking spiffy these days...The Meteor adds a welcome touch. Only three of their jets so far. Plenty of aircraft on their historical roster. I will post GB images in the gallery in a few minutes. This 19 Sqn Personal Build project began back when we had that Airfix BaE Hawk STGB that was sponsored by, I want to say, Kinetic? I can't remember...anyway, I built the Commemorative Hawk in Spitfire livery. And so my obsession began--to build their history. I have no other connection other than that. --John 8
