I think this is the best CDL I have ever mixed up. Went on like butter. John Masters
Stage 2...masking and the darker nose colour. I have used Desert Yellow. Looks good! Tomorrow I'll start on the struts! --John
RichieW
Love the CDL mix, this is really lovely. Looking forward to seeing the struts now. Richie

Thank you Ritchie. Me too. There is actually a lot of building I can do: exhausts, Browning, add the rudder. I will drill a small hole in the top wing for the water line and add a bit of a spigot and pipe... 18 minutes ago, Marklo said: It is certainly a nice warm tone and it does look good on the SPAD. Thank you Marklo. With the masking tape removed I seems I acheived the front tone exactly. The CDL could be a bit lighter per the profile but, you know...it's been in the wars... --John
John Masters
The middle struts are on first. These are the most important set, really. If I need to scratch-build the other four, I would rather it be them than not. Same goes for the cabane struts. I have also attached the single Browning and the exhaust pipes and readied the rudder for attachment. --John
Brandy
I'm not sure the nose is not too dark. It was all painted the same colour, the different tones simply being down to metal or canvas underneath. Looking good though! Ian

Sorry about the crazy angle...phone in one hand, aircraft in the other...tricky. I'll let that set a bit and (I hope) pop the outer struts right in! RichieW
I like that idea of inner struts first and later popping the outer ones in. That last photo really shows how tiny the model is.

That last photo really shows how tiny the model is. Thank you. It seemed like the right thing to do. If the outer struts end up being too short (which can happen) it's easier to scratch build those that the 'H' struts. And the cabanes are a no brainer. Yes...It's a small aircraft. Here's a picture of the SPAD 7 from Olde Rhinebeck Aerodrome, near where I grew up. I didn't take this picture. The watermark says it all. Very small...
John Masters
Some PE wire guides... Cabane struts... The outer struts snapped right into place. That doesn't happen often so I was very pleased. I always put those PE pieces in backwards. Easy enough to repair. --John
John Masters
I hope to return to this tonight. Been a while.
John Masters
Sprue is stretched. I'm not going to make a huge project of this and will skip some of the other, very small, rigging. This has been siting around for so long I really would like to finish it and put it on the shelf with the rest of the 19 Squadron collection. After an hour this is where I stopped. Tomorrow I hope to add the decals, the prop and wheels. Small amount of touch up paint too. Saturday I'll give it some satin coat. --John
John Masters
Damn. I just now noticed that the fuselage stripes are not part of the decal set. Time for masking. I would have rather done this long before the wings went on. White first. I use Off-White. -John
John Masters
I am thoroughly enjoying being back at the bench. Not everything is perfect, however. One of the reasons for my absence was a bothersome case of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_serous_chorioretinopathy which messed with my vision on my right eye and distorted my depth of field. Trust me, as photographer this was a pain in the butt. Its not completely gone and I may need some laser work to fix it, but three months later it is better. This does not lessen my joy at building. In any case...masked for the red and blue bits, and masks removed... Decals tonight folks! --John

John Masters
Prop and wheels are on and this one is finished...finally! To think I began this build in late October of last year. Now I get to look at yet another 19 Sq aircraft. Probably a Spitfire. They flew a few of them. I have a few kits to chose from. This was last night, so I will arrange a better photo shoot later today. --John 5
John Masters
All done. No weathering. Let's say it just emerged from the quonset hut after a fresh layer of canvas and paint, ready to take to the skies! I'm not sure what's next for 19 Sq. Spitfire? They had many...the Hornet? Another Dolphin? I have the decals for a second SPAD...Not sure about the marking for the BE.2c...I have a Gauntlet and the decals...Hmmm...I could go all the way back and build their very first training aircraft from 1915, the Farman MF.11 Shorthorn. They also trained on Avro 504 and Caudron G3...I have found no examples of any marking for those last three. Or, I could go ahead and build their Hunter. Haven't built one of those on a while and another jet might be needed for the shelf. And such a handsome aircraft too...Hmmm...So many options...such luxury problems. I'm taking requests. 😁 I'm leaning toward the Hunter... But I will wait until I finish my Mig-19 over at @JOCKNEY Japanese GB. One must try to finish what one begins, as my sainted mother would have said. --John 7
Brandy
It looks to me as though you need more early types. Nice job on the SPAD! Ian
