Hunter Rose
12 hours ago, SprueMan said: This looks good! I am looking forward to seeing it all come together Thanks SprueMan! Time for a bit of an update, I have been spraying down coats of gauzy intermediate onto the main fairing parts. I've got three coats on there to protect it from the polishing I am planning with tamiya compounds. So I cut up an old black t shirt and used it to rub on the compounds, it comes in coarse, fine and finish, So I rubbed it all over in circular motions till it had all disappeared then moved on to the next. After the finish rub down I gave it a buff with a clean bit of cloth. IMG_20221201_193237653 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20221201_193300812 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Admittedly its not as smooth as I hoped, I think maybe spraying in the crazy cold temperatures of my shed didn't do the gauzy a lot of favours! It has a very slight textured look to it but I'm happy with it. I also got the monitor of the control panel in place and gave the orange a matte coat. IMG_20221129_191206988 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Oh and after mucking about trying different bits to go in the front scoop, I ripped the crotch off the freedom gundam and its a good fit so that will be in there with maybe some mesh over the gap. IMG_20221129_190531414 by Nick Frost, on Flickr But next up I'll polish the other fairing bit, and also I've printed off my scaled armature guide for the figure as I'd like to make a start on the head too. So plenty to do! Thanks for looking, more soon
perdu
Hmmm Very interesting, am I seeing the right things here as it is fascinating me? You seem to have built and finished the i.c. motor to use in here even though there aren't wheels, wouldn't it be better improvising an anti grav unit instead of having belts and pulleys, maybe tucked in behind the Gundam intake area using the sump area of the power unit. Obviously a coppery device behind a honeycomb mesh screen is screaming out to be inserted... Kidding - a bit, but with all the excellent outside paint I just don't see belt driven cams. I am loving the concept, planning on the hoof and brilliant painting. Expect me hanging around at the back, I expect Alain has a few lovely beers to sample there.
Hunter Rose
Thanks for the interest perdu, appreciate it! The engine will be mostly covered by the fairing and I'll have the boosters out the back and the funky looking gundam bit in the scoop at the front, so it'll look very anti grav but I want it to have a clean sleek motorbike look as much as possible. Apologies for the leave of absence chaps, <excuses> works been a mad christmas rush so I've been pretty wiped out and its been bloody cold! </excuses> I'll have an update soon, I've finished off the polishing of the fairing so need to paint the inside of it black and get all the little extra pipework bits on so all the fairing can just be screwed in to place. So hopefully that will all be in the next update and that wont be too far off!

Yg Models
my tamiya polish compounds are dried, so i am going to try finisher's gloss coat & polish compounds. 😁 beware typical gloss coat is easy to overdone with polish compounds. hence, modelers in HK usually spray 10 layers before polish 😉 for your reference, typ gloss coat + tamiya compounds (sci-fi kits); typ gloss coat + modeling wax (Panigale); one layer of finisher's gloss coat, not polish yet (Suzuki). Got it nice and shiny but stopped when I noticed some small bits of yellow coming through the blue where it rubbed through it! It's nothing major though I'll share pictures I. The next update. I noticed today that it's been so cold in my shed at the minute my bottle of gauzy gloss coat has frozen solid! 1
Hunter Rose
Well baste my turkey its about time for an update! I gave all the fairing bits a final buff and polished them a little more, I went slightly overboard on the main fairing nearly ruining the decals but its all good, and I'm much happier with the sheen. IMG_20221221_111150195 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20221221_111306194~2 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then I brush painted some matte black paint on the inside very carefully IMG_20221221_114424273 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I also put the computer dash board bit on the front (because at this point I stupidly forgot I need to get the handlebars on first!!) IMG_20221221_114435367 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Plus as the black paint had now dried there was nothing stopping me from getting the top fairing section screwed into place IMG_20221228_144329914 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Now at this point I realised my brain fart with the dash, so I unscrewed it then picked out some silver details on the handlebars and after a mid grey drybrush got it in place. Then got the dash back in. IMG_20221229_145911385 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20221229_150605630 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Now at this point there are a lot of pipework details I need to get painted and on to the frame as the also create and attach point for the radiator wich I plan on getting my front detail part stuck to. BUT all the pipework is not seen at all when the fairing is on, and now the handlebars are in place I found that the gundam part I want to stick at the front fits much better with no radiator. So that meant what the hell I'll get the main fairing on as well! IMG_20221229_151615885 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20221229_151631268 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20221229_151642586 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And heres a shot of how the 1/60 gundam crotch will be positioned at the front. IMG_20221229_151854911 by Nick Frost, on Flickr So thats where I'm up to, I'm glad to have finally got to this point, it feels like now I can start because all the main bits are on so I can see how I can get my engines and front bit in place and what I need to do to get them in place. So next up I'll get the gundam part primed and painted so I can get it in place, and I'll also get the seat and petrol cap sorted so they are just done. Then I can concentrate fully on the rear end and getting the boosters and fins sorted. Thanks for looking, more soon

Hunter Rose
*sneaks in at the back* Right, time for an update! Back in the now thankfully not too cold shed I go, and start things off by filling the big gap in the gundam part I'm using on the front of the bike with some styrene as a vent detail. I just cut some thin styrene and staggered it gluing each bit in place as I went. IMG_20230205_104219850 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then I primed it along with the little bit that sits on top of it and the seat parts so I can get them in place too. IMG_20230205_105054338 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Brush painted the seat with some matt enamel paint, and I also finally got around to spraying some alclad aluminium on the petrol cap too. IMG_20230205_135956770 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And the petrol cap is now glued in place. IMG_20230205_140202790 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then back to the gundam part, I sprayed it with some mr color white, and went with orange for the little end bit to tie in with the small orange detail on the bottom of the bike and it also looks good with the white. IMG_20230205_141548695 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230205_155654862 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Just took a pic holding it in place once dry so you could see how it looks and how its going to be positioned when done. IMG_20230210_094840539 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And after a second coat of matt enamel paint I got the seat bits glued on. IMG_20230211_134021558 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I did some post shading on the white and orange its with a light grey and a darker orange colour though none of which is very visible in the pics which is annoying but hey ho here they are IMG_20230211_141209732 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230211_141302913 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Also started to firm up my ideas for how the engines and fins will look, this is how the engines will be positioned IMG_20230211_144459914 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Really pleased as well as I found a couple of decent fins I like that aren't too crazy on an old 1/100 Altron gundam kit I had in the stash box, for now these are just blue tacked in place, I'll get them painted and then properley stuck on. IMG_20230211_144704629 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230211_144718727 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And now its all dry here the front bit together, I was thinking about doing the vent a metallic colour but now its all together and painted I think I actually really like thats its also white. Not sure though I'll give it a think and see how I feel, want to paint the inside black before I get it stuck on so I've got time to meditate on it. Pete in Lincs
Welcome back. I too braved the cold and got a little bit done on the Impala. How about leaving the slats as they are, but yellow around the forward facing structure as a warning to keep clear? Maybe even a danger or keep clear decal on the top horizontal part? This is influenced by military jet intakes, obviously.
Hunter Rose
Cheers Pete! That's a really great idea, I'm thinking instead of yellow, I'll put a red line around the vent and mask it off with diagonal stripes so it's a dashed line with the white. And yeah definitely will put some warning decals from the ones I grabbed for this build. Been thinking more about the vent itself too, I'm going to try spraying some alclad jet exhaust mixed with a little aluminium (just to make it a bit more metallic) at a steep angle from the bottom to look like a bit of wear from the air being sucked in.
Hunter Rose
Right time for an update, managed to get quite a bit done in the last few days so I'm pretty happy. But last week I masked out my red warning stripes and then realised I dont have any red mr color paint so I switched back to tamiya acrylic and somehow overthinning the paint so it went down horribly and leached under the masking. IMG_20230213_161544727~2 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I'm really hating tamiya acrylics lately, so glad I made the switch to mr color, and thats not a judgement on them more baout how I seem to be jinxed with acrylics and find laquer paint so much easier (plus the colours are so much more vivid!) So i did what I should have done in the first place rather than being so impatient and ordered some red. So I resprayed the whole thing, I just gave the edges a blast of black to preshade and then hit it with white and from there I could mask out the warning line again and once I got the red I laid it down and it went much better. IMG_20230217_093408847 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230217_171719005 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230217_172915147 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230217_173533767 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230217_173824091 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then for the vent I bit of it I decided to brush paint it with a bit of classic humbrol 53 metallic grey IMG_20230218_152539631 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then I got my little fin parts primed, and then painted blue IMG_20230217_093447702 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230218_152621397 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Whilst that was drying I wanted to make a concrete start on the jet engines out the back so I can get them painted and in place. So I cut the pipe parts to length after checking them when in place, I then glued them firmly in with plenty of tamya extra thin IMG_20230217_094902940 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I decided the easiest way to this was if I can get both engines glued together so I can treat them as one piece that will fall into place nicely after being painted as a sub assembly. So I taped them together first to see how the need to join and the used some expoxy glue on the part where they meet. IMG_20230218_153225041 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230218_153231026 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230218_154405178 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230219_110548289 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then I switched back to the fins and masked out and sprayed the yellow part where there is a panel lined section IMG_20230219_114104034 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230219_124554357 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Couldn't resist doing a dry fit, which also let me double check that it in no way interferes with the engines IMG_20230219_132335034 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230219_132406938 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then after I got a bit of greenstuff and some superglue (taking no chances!) to ensure the point where the engine parts connect it strong I gave it a blast of primer. IMG_20230219_142501027 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Pretty pumped with those engine bits, so nice when you have an idea you hope will work and it does just come off nicely! Only other little thing I've done is to get the gap in the back of the fairing filled with another part thats has no use other then to look cool and "futurey" Theres supposed to be a light there but that looked too normal, and I've had this little part hanging around for years, I'm sure we all have bits we take a shine to in the spares box which we are saving for just the right time and this turned out to fit like a glove! IMG_20230219_124653333 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230219_124721144 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Its actually a weapon clip part from a 1/35 Zebra 41 mecha model kit from the Border Break Japanese arcade game So this is moving on very quickly which makes me happy! So next up I will get the engines and the little back bit sprayed with some airframe aluminium, and I may add some cabling too. Oh and I'll put a panel wash on to those little fin parts. Thanks for looking, more soon
shortCummins
nice save with the warning stripes, I've taken to using MRP lacquers whenever I can, so much easier to spray and get consistent results rgds John(shortCummins)

Hunter Rose
Another little update, the gardens kept me away from the bench but I have managed to do a few little bits. I mixed up a wash with some black oil paint and white spirit which I used on the panel lines of the fins, on the front section with the vent and the petrol cap IMG_20230226_163615152 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230226_163645461 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20230226_164318286 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Main thing I've been doing is mucking about with green stuff world roll maker tool, if you dont know what that is its basically ridge plates that you can roll greenstuff/polymer clay between to make neat cables. I've seen them before but never bothered with them but then one popped up on ebay for dirt cheap so took a punt and I'm really enjoying it! Im going to use it to make some cables that will go here and there, and you can make them posable by rolling them around a bit of thin wire. The main reason for getting this is actually so I can make tones of sculpey cables to go on the android girl, looking forward to that! Pete in Lincs
And I thought this thing was meant to fly. Now you make Caterpillar(s) tracks? Ah, so it'll float like a Butterfly eh? Loving the paint and decals. And that bit at the back, It's odd how disparate parts just seem to fit together so well.
