TimJ
I'll be building the Revell reissue of the Matchbox Sd.Kfz. 251. Another Matchbox kit that I've never built, I'm looking forward to getting started. Robert Stuart
Don't think I've seen that before, in any of its guises. Looks interesting, will you be putting it on the base?
TimJ
I will be putting it on the base. This boxing is from 2009 which, according to Scalemates, was the last time it was released and the only release in a Revell box. The previous release was in 1992 so it's not surprising that you don't see them too often.
Ol' Scrapiron
Interesting that it comes with everything to make a wall vignette... but the box cover art doesn't even hint at that.

That's the way that Matchbox did all their 76th armour, and Matchbox boxes made a point of letting you know about the base.

Was there any hint of the extra wall/street on the sides of the box? Obviously there is the photo on the instructions, but I was curious if any clues were on the outside of the packaging or if you had to purchase it and open before you discovered the Matchbox heritage. TimJ
It does mention on the side of the box that the kit includes a ''diorama plate with streetscape'' so there is a clue to its Matchbox origins.
IanC
Excellent choice! I did one of these for the recent Matchbox GB and really enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Looking forward to following your build.
Bertie McBoatface
Brave man! This is farrrrr too tiny for me to get hold of.
TimJ
Time to drag this up from the depths of page three. So far I've got the basic hull together and assembled the base, which has been given a coat of grey from a Poundland rattlecan. P1050960 by timothy jones, on Flickr P1050961 by timothy jones, on Flickr It's gone together well so far so hopefully this'll be a quick build.
TimJ
Well, that didn't turn out as planned. On the plus side, the base has been painted and the decals added. P1060060 by timothy jones, on Flickr After a trip to my local model shop for a tin of paint the half track was painted and further assembly started, during which I lost a seat, an outer front wheel and an inner wheel to the carpet monster. 🙁 I made a replacement inner wheel from plastic card but the other parts are still AWOL so some crawling on the floor with a torch may be required to find them. Here's how it stands at the moment. P1060141 by timothy jones, on Flickr P1060142 by timothy jones, on Flickr Hopefully I can find the missing parts or possibly try casting replacements.
Stef N.
Nowt as bad as a hungry carpet monster. Hopefully they turn up soon. The rest looks ace and I love what you've done with the graffiti wall.👍
IanC
Great work on the base Tim - hope you find the missing parts.
Bertie McBoatface
If you park really close to the wall you might be able to hide the missing wheel?
TimJ
Since the last update the Hanomag has been given a coat of clear and the decals applied. P1060184 by timothy jones, on Flickr P1060187 by timothy jones, on Flickr After a coat of matt varnish I added the machine guns. P1060229 by timothy jones, on Flickr The missing wheel still hasn't been found despite a few searches so I thought I'd try to make a replacement. I remembered that a few years ago I was given a couple of Airfix RAF Emergency Sets, one of which had lot of parts missing and was only really useful for spares. I got a wheel from the kit and after reducing the diameter a little I thinned it down and chamfered the inside edge to make it fit inside the Hanomag's tyre. The final touch was a wheel hub made from a roof vent from the Emergency Set ambulance. While the end result isn't an exact replica of the kit part it's close enough. TimJ
The tracks are fitted and the crew on board, although one seems to be making a hasty exit, so I'm calling this done. The tracks were a bit of a tight fit between the wheels and mudguards due to their thickness but I managed to squeeze them in. P1060247 by timothy jones, on Flickr More pictures in the Gallery.
