I clicked on the Armory Models link earlier and it did indeed take me to what appeared to be a Turkish gaming site.

 

I thought 'what the hell, a few games won't hurt.'

 

Four minutes later I was 4000 Turkish Lira in the hole and my Telford budget had vanished.

 

Oh well...roll on Scale Modelworld 2023.

After 15 years of wanting to go to Telford.... I have a pass out from my beloved and a fresh IPMS membership card in my sticky paws! 

 

Looking forward to my first SMW, even if I can only do 1 day on the Saturday.

 

Thanks for the tips on parking. If I want to get in at 9am what time do I need to be there to not get stuck in the queue with the general admission people?

We stream the queues as much as we can - there's an 'IPMS ' queue once you're inside the main concourse and a 'non-member' queue parallel to it. Coming in through the front entrance as an IPMS member, you probably need to be looking at being on site by 8.00-8.15 and undertaking that great British tradition of queuing patiently outside (hopefully not in the rain...).

I'm a bit confused about when I can bring models in for the competition. I am an IPMS member but don't belong to any IPMS club. Can I bring my competition entries in on the Friday evening, or is that only for people who have access that day (for set up, etc.)?

As Bentwaters says, On Friday, only the designated set-up crew from each dislay group (max 4 people) is permitted in the halls. Similarly, on Saturday from 0800-0845, only set-up crews and traders are permitted in the halls. We close the rear doors at 0845 and then open the front entrance at 0900 (the fifteen minutes is to allow the door crew to relocate from rear to front).

 

All other Branch and SIG members - and anyone who does not belong to one of those groups - have to wait until 0900 to in through the front entrance.

According to a thread in Rumourmonger Kinetic Models are planning on making their new F16A - MLU available for the first time at Telford along with some Harrier reboxings;

Not sure if the Saturday is where Airfix will give us the big reveal of their all new 1/24th Spitfire or not. They have in the past made some sort of announcement at 11.00am.

 

Kotare Models are scheduled to be in attendance too so it might turn into a bit of a larger scale Spitfire fest.

Given that a test build has been in Airfix Model World and on their blog, I would be very surprised if it wasn't there. What we really need is the reveal of the 1/72nd Airfix Vintage reissue of the Rotodyne and SRN-1 (I can live in hope)

I will be lurking around the Battle of Britain SIG stand in Hall 3, when I’m not having a good look round at everything else. :like:

I shall make a point of coming to say hi Heather! I'll be largely based on the Wessex IPMS stand (aka Poole Scale Modellers) with some time also on the Target Facilities SIG stand.

 

Looking forward also to meeting old friends and making new ones!

Some years there has been a stand with a chap selling mainly (as far as I can recall ) second hand decal sheets.

 

Does anyone know the trading name, or if he will be attending this year?

 

I've had a look at the floor plan, but nothing 'rings a bell'

Might be Paul Davis used to be in hall 3 pre covid, he's in top right corner hall 1 this year

If he is the guy, I bought some very, very interesting and useful decal sets from him that have helped  builds enormously.

 

One other thing - he seems to have knowledge of evdery single decal sheet on his stand! I asked him on one occasion if he had some particular decals in 1.72 and not only did he instantly tell me who they were by, he went to his racks of decals and found the sheet almost straight away!. And his prices are very reasonable.

 

I hope you find what you need from him with the same ease.

Will IPMS members be able to pick up their wristbands on the Friday? As per earlier years?

I think only those who are involved in setting up a display can get their wristband and get in on Friday afternoon.

 

Last year I was one of the volunteers issuing such wristbands and we only gave them to the first four from each club/SIG that turned up.

I'm not thinking of getting in. As per previous years members could pick up their wristbands on the Friday for the weekend. And don't have to queue up too much on the Saturday morning.

Usualy if you don't get your wristbands on the Friday or your club rep dosent I know from past that it's advised to email the names up to 4 per branch/sig to the relevant person as that's what I've done in past well last year I forget and did cause bit an issue lol
