Scale ModelWorld 2022

I am planning on being at this year's Scale ModelWorld for the first time since 2019 and I thought I would start a forum thread just to see all is as it used to be with this show.

The show website is here; https://ipmsuk.org/ipms-scale-modelworld/

I noticed on the website there are no sales on the door for non IPMS members and a ticket has to be bought beforehand. This is different from when I was last there when tickets could be purchased as you went in.

Can I assume access to the International Centre car parking and even just Telford Town Centre will be the same as before?

Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone who is going to Telford this year.

Glad to see you are planning to go. I will be, and despite some grumbling by some Britmodellers, I guess a lot of us here will be going again.

IPMS introduced the no purchasing tickets on entry lat year, it must have not damaged ticket sales as they are selling on line only again.

There is a new public car park opposite the entrance to the centre car park, I don't know what the charges will be.

As far as I know there are no changes to the centre car park, probably still difficult to get into, and who knows what road works the council will spring on us!

I understand that all 3 halls will be used this year (only 2 halls last year), and the competition will be in hall 3. I think.

I hope this is useful for you.

OK cheers Whofan that is great. Last time I was there it was 3 halls filled with clubs and traders, another hall for the Kit Swap and the competition up in the Mezzanine.

Fingers crossed there are no roadworks.

I've been attending this event for well over 25 years, way back when it was at Donnington. For many years it was the only model show I attended and has become my idea of mecca, even planning holidays around the event.

Over the years the number of people who come with me has grown this year there will be a car load, for the first time we've turned to the dark side and  joined the IPMS. This seems a fairly cost effective way of doing things as it is only a few pound more but with added benefits.

As I get older I find its nice to be around like mined individuals as our hobby can be a little secular. We've recently started our own little club in Barry south Wales and taken to displaying at a few local shows under our own banner, we will be at Yeovil in a few weeks time and then back to my own little mecca, see you all soon.

Regards Glenn.

There's no kit swap this year, and as I said, the competition will be in hall 3.

Telford town centre car parking hasn't changed much in the last couple of years.  I use the Cherry Pink car park, which seems to me the nearest to the TIC and only about 3 mins walk away.  It's cheaper than using the TIC's car parks, especially on Sunday.  Charges at Cherry Pink are £4.50 all day Saturday, £1.00 all day Sunday.

West Middlesex will be there with myself, looking forward to it. As usual last minute scramble to complete builds for Telford, hopefully a tongue in cheek diorama will be finished on time.

Drop by the stand and say hello, see you all there.

All the best Chris

I hope to be there this year. Missed last year due to some issues with my legs that needed fixing, so my last show was 2019. Before that I have been every year for around 10 or more years. Always a great show and always hook up with so many I have met through BM.

I'll be on the IPMS Wessex (Poole Scale Modellers) stand AND the Target Facilities SIG stand with @Martian. Don't ask me how we can be on two at once, it's magic!

So do come along and say hi!

Best Beloved and I will be there both days. I'll have a couple of models on the Battle of Britain SIG stand, and may well be lurking round there when I'm not off spending too much money!

Really looking forward to the show. The last we managed was a brief visit in 2019, so it'll be nice to meet new and old faces in person again.

The thought of attending again had crossed my mind (what there is of it), but it's not to be. You lucky, lucky people won't have to suffer my dubious company, nor will I have to make the 24+ hour flight...

this year. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! (dramatic chords)

Chris,

if it's anything like the last tongue in cheek diorama (the club table)  it'll draw very admiring criwds!

My first IPMS Nationals as it then was, in 1979. Apart from a break between 2012 and 2016, not missed one. Accommodation in Shrewsbury booked, as we make a weekend of it, Mrs T will be doing some Christmas shopping. Looking forward to SMW and hoping to see some BM'ers.

I was really hoping to make it this year, but life got in the way. Pretty sure next year is out too, as we have three other vacations planned. I'll shoot for 2024.

Cheers,

Bill

It's a shame that next year could be a no for you also, as 2023 will be the 60th anniversary of IPMS. That must mean extra beer! Just saying 🤔
