Ooooo looking absolutely stunning Roger, cracking paint and weathered finish. Love the look of these with the glazing and it certainly looks impressive with the frames painted too.

Great job all round fella.

Chris

Thanks very much Chris - I am becoming pleased with the overall effect!

Wot he said. :goodjob:

Quick question.

I've just surfaced so may not have read everything correctly.

To knock back the code decals did you add a couple of drops of grey to the clear coat.

I like the effect and will be forced to nick it.

Cheers,

Alistair

Alistair,

The flat coat had a couple of drops of Sky Grey added to add a fading effect to everyt'ing. Please feel free to nick away...

Cheers,

Roger

I think that is a necessity.

Certainly from my end.

One thing I did find was when using a jpeg to make the mask if you leave it zoomed out it makes it so much easier to get rid of the speckles with the threshold slider.

Then you resize it for use.

Alistair

Nearly missed this., but thankfully for me did not.  T’riffic build and, as a bonus, enjoying the cutter discussion (even tho’ I’ve not got one) and squirrelled away the tip of a couple of drops of light grey in the clear coat.

When I first looked at this (excellent) piccie I thought “what’s an Imperial War Museum van doing in the photo”

A fair point - those vans do get everywhere, and I made sure to credit IWM for all the pics of L6670! (Also happy to remove photos if required). Happy to share the flat coat tip for the greater good, and let's all jump on the cutter roller-coaster

The Battle of Blenheim lasted around 12 hours, it seems you’re able to build and finish one in about the same time!  Nice work, Roger, I like the fading on the roundels and markings, it ties the finish together.  RFI Peter today? 😂

Looking very nice in matt varnish, and also looking nicely-nicely are the engine collector rings.  😉

Thanks for the kind words Amos!

Thanks very much Mark - I'm not displeased with the fading effect. Imagine how good it would've looked with the markings painted 🤣

  • Dunny changed the title to A Greek Tragedy? 1:48 Blenheim Mk.I *FINISHED*

Hi All,

A final update on the Blenheim! The only substantial outstanding task was the building and finishing of the turret. Here's the structure partly in place on the helpful jig component which Airfix provide:

And here's the mostly finished article (clearly sans glazing) :penguin:. After that it was just fiddly bits, and rigging of the antenna, and I'm calling her done. Here's a couple of teaser shots:

I have to say I've thoroughly enjoyed this build - the kit is superb and I do like the Blenheim in this scheme. Thanks to all those who have offered kind words and support along the way - it has been sincerely appreciated. I'll do an RFI post and link it into this thread.

Thanks for looking,

Roger

I like that a lot, Roger.  The scheme you chose is interesting and the quality with which you executed it did the kit justice.

Thanks very much Mark. It was a shame not to use the mask cutter on this build, but the kit decals were pretty good! As always appreciate your kind words and support,

Cheers,

Roger

I really like the clean-but-lightly-faded finish, spot on for me.

Gorgeous! The paint job is the cherry on top of a great build.

If I didn’t have three or four FROG kits to build I would be seriously tempted to buy one and blame you!!

Adrian

Adrian, go on - you know you want to! Appreciate the kind words,

Cheers,

Roger
