John R
Looking at the possibility of building one to go with my collection of early jets I found that the first one (surprise) was somewhat different to the production model but information is somewhat sketchy (surprise again!) There is a drawing of the first one in Belyakov & Marmain's book 'MiG' but it appears to show the prototype after its initial bugs were sorted out. The main visual changes, as described, were a shortening of the rear fuselage and an increase in tailplane sweep but what I am curious about is whether or not it had wing fences when it first flew. Almost every a/c with fences seems to have acquired them after flight testing so did that happen with the MiG 15 or did its designers get it right first time as a result of tunnel testing? The latter seems unlikely as the book mentioned above after decribing the fuselage modifications contains the following 'necessitated modifications to the ailerons, the wing chord and the sweep angles of the tail unit. The well known silhouette was not created in one pass'. A description of the third prototype states that the stabiliser was moved aft 150mm necessitating modification to the fin. Also does anyone have a photo of the underside, preferably an early version John

Blimpyboy
To add to @GiampieroSilvestri's post, here are some more shots of the I-310 (sadly, none of them include the underside). These are of the 'S-1' airframe: http://авиару.рф/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/1.I-310-MiG-15-S-1.jpg http://авиару.рф/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/2.I-310-MiG-15-S-1.-Vid-sboku..jpg http://авиару.рф/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/3.MiG-15-S-1..jpg http://авиару.рф/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/3a.I-310-MiG-15-S-1.jpg This is - according to the caption - the 'S-2' airframe, which included wing hardpoints: http://авиару.рф/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Vtoroj-opytnyj-I-310-MiG-15-S-2-oborudovannyj-reaktivnymi-protivoshtopornymi-ustanovkami-RPU-300.jpg And this - again, according to the caption - is the 'S-3' airframe. http://авиару.рф/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/4a.3-ij-opytnyj-ekzemplyar-MiG-15-S-3-s-otkrytymi-tormoznymi-shhitkami..jpg I don't know which airframe this one is: http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/fighter/mig15/mig15-2.jpg Finally, this drawing doesn't show any wing fences, but I'm not sure if it's just an indicative airframe diagram: http://авиару.рф/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/8.I-310.-CHertezh..jpg Good luck!
