IanC
This is my first 1/35 Sherman for a long while - Tamiya's excellent 'Easy Eight'. There's enough detail for me and the kit tracks are fine. I just added an aerial and drilled out the MG barrels. The stowage was a combination of Tamiya accessories, Value Gear items and Milliput, all tied down with some fine ships rigging. The tank commander is the chap from the kit, with a new head, and the rest were modified from Tamiya's own US tank crew set. I used Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics, with oils and pigments for the weathering. Only disappointment are the decals - Tamiya just supplies the white stars and no unit markings or serials, but photos show that these were often obscured anyway so I wasn't too bothered. My model is an attempt to recreate the look of a typical tank in the ETO at the war's end. All the best, Ian 46

binbrook87
That's superb. As a fairly inexperienced armour modeller i do love to see builds like this that provide tips and inspiration. Looks the part 👍👍

Yes, rubber bands that you can join with normal glue. I still think they work OK on tanks like Shermans with tracks under tension.

Pinehilljoe
Superb! The figures are great. you should do a youtube on how to paint figures! Side note. Growing up, our town's American Legion Post had the towns little league fields and an M-4 A3E8, and M-16 Half Track for static display. After a game we would spend hours playing on the tank and half track. Edited October 7, 2022 by Pinehilljoe

I can definitely recommend it. One small point to note is that although Tamiya supply periscopes for the underside of the hatches, you can't show them open on the top, so if you build the tank buttoned up the driver can't see where he's going! But, it's Tamiya of course, and what you lack in the occasional detail you make up for in superb fit and a stress free build. 🙂

SoftScience
Very cool! Your figure painting is amazing, and I really love the light dusty weathering. What color pigment(s) did you use? I have a question. If the periscopes, as you modeled them, were inserted into the hatches, then would the cover flaps on the other side be closed? Could they be raised and lowered once they were on?

Could they be raised and lowered once they were on? Many thanks. I use a selection of AK pigments - sienna soil, light dust, European earth, and dark earth, blended to give a variety of shades. I also used some Mig dry earth and dry steppe 'splashes' products on the running gear, but you could achieve the same effect with paint thickened with pigments or plaster. As for the periscopes - yes, when buttoned up I believe the periscopes were pushed up a bit and the armoured flap on the hatch cover raised to a 45 deg angle. I'm not sure about the precise mechanism. Tamiya has moulded those flaps shut, so you can't depict the periscopes 'in action'.
