Corsairs Israeli Mk.7/7.5 trainer Meteor.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone I will be building Special hobby’s (MPM) Meteor T.Mk.7.5. It actually comes as a Mk.7 in the box and I need to swap out the older style tail for the larger tail. So I can make either version. The Israeli’s operated both types so its up to me. I prefer the 7.5 as it comes in the desired Blue/Earth camouflage. The Mk.7 would be high speed silver.

I will post sprue photo’s in a day or two as Im away from my office currently. Please feel free to ask questions or post comments.

Good to see the Captain is back on deck. G-ANSO is a delightful scheme. Looking forward to seeing this one.

Looking forward to seeing your progress with this one @Corsairfoxfouruncle - you've got to love an IAF scheme :yahoo:

Kris

Thank you everyone, C-ANSO is a good scheme RAY and so is the all blue RAF option with the Recon nose. Im just a sucker for the Israeli scheme so thats what this one will be. The upside of course is I will need more Meteor’s in my future.

Hello James yes time to mangle plastic and inhale paint snd glue again, looking forward to it.

Hello Kris yes you do the have always had some good looking camouflage schemes. This one and then the four tone used after it. I was hoping they would find a way to camouflage their F-35’s even if all shades of grey ?

Well I started this and almost chucked it in a bin ! The cockpit is 1.5 mm’s wider than the fuselage ! I ground the heck out of with a woodworking sanding block and hopefully between that and C/A’ing the entire fuselge I will get it together ? Im not even sure I can get weight in as there was no chance and no room at the back of the cockpit as its so close to the main gear ? I’m hoping I can get some in the nacelles ? H5cQuxA.jpg

Now granted I know this is Special hobby but Its definitely one of their lesser kits. I will know more tomorrow for sure, but im not holding my breath. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or laugh because I am. Two group builds that Im hosting and both kits go belly up on the first night. Anyone a gambler want to take a guess at the odds of this ? Because its seriously zapping my mojo this year.

You seem to have succesfully wrestled the fuselage into submission.

Hopefully you're correct, it kept popping at the seems last I checked. After arguing with it for 3 hours I took photo’s and went to sleep. Will check on it very soon to see if it worked in the end.

Stick at it Dennis

It looks like you’re beating it into place.

James

You may be correct sir… The first three are mocked up, all before rough sanding.

The next two are post rough sanding and are glued together. I had to chop out a bit if the wings center to fit the weight (3/4 oz) in.

I also added a large number of smashed fishing weights into every nook and cranny of the nose gear bay. Also add some extra around the larger weight. I posed it on top of two bottles roughly where the main gear will go. GCIBGci.jpg

Oh to add there are zero gaps with the wings. But the intakes/exhausts will require some grinding. Right now its balanced and doesn't tilt back.  When I add the canopy and nose gear it should be all good. I will file the mains to angle slightly forward to help. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts.

That one's proving to be a fight, but it looks like you're winning

Rough sanding and re-scribing done now. Just need to fill in some small areas along the centerline with putty. Then its all just a clean up, polish, and re-scribe again.

I was able to get them in behind the the cockpit.  You look like you have the same moulds as I.  Some of the fit is perfect, other parts need some work.  Other than that it's a good kit.  I'm looking forward to yours.

Wow … Just Wow what a night ! I finished the sanding and was just sorting my desk and … Bang Disaster strikes. I knocked over a full bottle of Tamiya Extra thin glue. Miracle of miracle it missed all my model bits, All 10 propellers and both the Meteor and meteor’s canopy. What it didn't miss was my cutting mat and my desk. Now the mat has been soaked a couple of times since I bought it and will survive, minus the printing on it. But what I didn't know was that the Tamiya extra thin cement would eat my desk under the mat ! The glue ran off the edge of the mat and when I went to clean it up the mat was both stuck too and pulling up part of the wood ? Apparently the wood is porous and in layers. I salvaged it and whats left is a huge bare section of wood sanded down with an 80 grit carpentry sanding pad. 🤬Oh well I guess its a minor miracle that all the plastic was spared. The sanding, polish, and re-scribe is now complete. So sometime this week I can start paint. sRwD6qU.jpg

Anyone know what color Israeli landing gear bays were, particularly the nose wheel bay ? As I do have weights stuffed along the rear edges so I painted the bay black for now ? Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or laugh at the dork that made a rookie mistake.

I'm thankful that the glue managed to miss the models! I can't laugh, I did similar myself earlier in the year, over a brand new mat as well. I've since invested in a holder to reduce the risk of doing it again. The Meteor is looking good too

There are, I believe, two kinds of modellers. Those who already have knocked over a full bottle of cement, and those who are going to!

Glad the plastic was spared, and hopefully that’s your quota of bad luck for this build used up!

Been there. done that.

I'd say the weel wells were standard silver on the IDF/AF Meteors.
