By Request - Revell Northsea Trawler ++Finished++

Allrighty

After a few requests (well, one actually by @Jinxman) in my BR01 Locomotive thread, I'm making a start on the Northsea Trawler

I'm currently suffering from the Covid Lurgy 😷 so don't want do be doing much in the way of spraying paints, thus the loco will have to wait a bit

Anyways, here's the box and sprues

The hull and deck have been cut from the frames and are being fettled

More soon(ish)

Allrighty,

Thanks everyone

I've been pottering away at bits of the kit. The lurgy seems to be easing a bit, which is helping

The hull has been stuck together and paint has been brushed on the main deck.

Progress

I then made a start on part of the superstructure only to discover there is a part missing  You can see the gap in the last of the sprue shots above. I never noticed

Request for a replacement has been sent to Revell. Hopefully it will arrive in time, otherwise, I will have an entry for the KUTA

More hopefully soon(ish)

/P

I presume the missing piece is the opposite of that one with the curves in it? Unfortunately I don't have such a piece in my bits boxes. Sorry.

It doesn't look as if it would be too hard to replicate from plastic card if need be.

Love this kit in all it's many boxing's and a nice size when built.Hope you don't mind a photo of my "pristine" Version which wouldn't stay that way in the cold

North sea! Little tip P,I used black decal for the cabin window's and it looked quite effective.

We're on dangerous ground. This is nearly proper modelling.....

Spurred on by @Pete in Lincs comment, I found some card and cut a wodge with a template made from the opposite side

Scratchin

Fine tuning of the dimensions with blades, scrapers and files got me to this

Scratchin

Not too bad, a bit of filler and a lick of paint and it'll be grand

Here's the opposide side for comparison

Scratchin

Not sure how I'm going to replicate the raised surface detail. Maybe just ignoring it and painting in the windows will be enough

Of course, you know Revell will come up with a replacement part in the post tomorrow now I've done this

More soon(ish)

Allrighty, a quick update

Filler slathered in the join

Filler

And smoothed out

Filler

I'm happy

Now, I'm sure I have some plastic rod thin enought to re-create the missing details.

If not, there's always stretched sprue....

More soon(ish)

but there's a song in my head as I build this, so I'll leave you with The Corries

This will be nice. Two memories about the kit and pirate radio, one is the kit was once issued as a "Russian Spy Ship". And I recall the pirate radio stations very well Caroline, RNI, London etc .

There's only a week left, so the only way I'm going to get this finished in time is to slap it together, warts 'n all, and then splash paint on it.

Won't have enough bench time to do much more

and thus

Plan: step1 - Build

Rush job

Plan: Step 2a - Paint (primer)

Rush job

The first coat of paint has been brushed on everything except the hull, but I hit a snag

I was intending to use Revell acrylics, but they've either dried out completely or are the consistency of chocolate spread

Alternatives are being sought and a couple are on their way from the big river

More soon(ish)

/P

But in the meantime

Plan: step 2b, paint - airbRUSHing

AirbRUSHing

It looks better from this distance, close up not-so-good, but it'll (mostly have to) do

Due to some overspray, there's an imteresting accidental effect on the grey deck which I really like, but it doesn't cover the entire area .

I doubt there's any way to recreate on the bits which were properly masked so I'll have to correct it

Also, the VMA Hull Red was a lot more brown than I was expecting

Next up, Step 2c, painting in the details

More soon(ish)

/P

but in the meantime

Allrighty,

I didn't take a pic of this yesterday, so here's the overspray I mentioned

Too late

If had covered the entire deck I'd leave it, but I'll have to fix it up

Also, as expected

Too late

We all knew that was going to happen

:hmmm:I could probably prise off the scratched part and stick that in and repaint and .....

No, don't be silly. There's only a week left

No song today

More soon(ish)

Allrighty,

Painting is mostly finished although I expect there will be some touch-ups needed after I've stuck it all together

Ready for assembly 🏗️

Shipbuilding

And, after a bit of a struggle getting the mast put together 🔨

Shipbuilding

And finally for now, the rest of the superstructure

Shipbuilding

That was left to settle while I had Haggis and Black Pudding Pizza for dinner

Looking hopeful for the gallery tomorrow 😌

Final update for tonight

Looking (as @Pete in Lincs said) er, shipshape

Shipshape

I've brushed on some aqua gloss where the decals will sit

Tomorrow, decals and rigging

A song by the Sex Pistols springs to mind, but since this is a family forum, I'll avoid it and leave you with this instead

More soon(ish)

I'll post pics in the gallery soon(ish), once I've figured out how to get a model this big into my tiny photobooth

/P

And, with apolgies for any distress caused by the hair
