I think for next year @trickyrich should learn python or pearl or Ruby on Rails or whatever  and have his Excel graphs update in real time :)  I’d probably be game if you felt brave enough to let me tinker with the inner workings of the forum….

Hmm I wonder if there might be a sort option lurking in the voting script ?

Python and Google Sheets would do quite nicely.

I'm not aware if there is one.  Rich's charts are created in Excel and uploaded as a graphic file.

I wasn’t even thinking of charts, just listing the GBs by vote count in the poll.

a notice in the local shop:

Missing Dog

one eye, left front leg gone, missing an ear,  neutered, answers to the name of Lucky.

And I think this one is a Groucho Marks joke.
My dog has no nose.

How does he smell…

Terrible….

I've jus tried to do that in my sandbox area.  The forum software doesn't allow poll options to be rearranged.

Too much information!. I don't want to know what you've tried to do in your sandbox, and as for rearranging your poll options, good grief!

Could you sort the table that holds the votes and then refresh the vote?

It could be done as an external webpage that scraped the forum page and generated the graph every time someone clicked on the link to load the graph page.

I'm a PHP programmer of many many years and have done this similar to this before. Would need to study the structure of the HTML of the page to write a parser for it, but there are all sorts of plugins for that.

That said I've also been keeping a spreadsheet of my own of the results on an irregular basis that shows the progress over time...

I wonder how many of us will be staying up until midnight tonight?

I'm sitting here casually, thinking 'not me'.

But come 11:59 I'll probably be on the edge of my chair.

All this talk of python, html,PHP..

In my day the data would be sent to a bureau where cards would be punched, then run overnight on a computer and if you were lucky you would get the results the next day.

Perhaps this is what @trickyrich   really does behind the scenes.

I’ve had a busy day and a relatively early start tomorrow, plus my first job interview in years later in the week, so I’ll probably go to bed at ten pm as usual and leave the final results to fate.

There’s only one GB I probably won’t participate in if it gets over the line.

Regardless of the result this is my new bunfight theme music :( :)

Been there done that :D

My first computer program was written in 1975 using punch cards and editing paper tape with scissors, sellotape and a hole punch... took a long time to debug just a simple calculation...

It's a good job he lives in Australia, when you think about it; he has plenty of time when the rest of us are asleep to fire up the gas-powered mainframe.

In my day we had to make do with a coal-fired Difference Engine, but we were 'appy!

And if Wellington (Then prime minister) had agreed to fund Babbage fully we’d have had digital computers in the nineteenth century, albeit mechanical ones, imagine what that would have meant from a technological point of view..,,

Isn't that an engine from a Gotha?

Well in as much as the Royal family went under that name at the time yes it is. ( they changed to Windsor and stopped speaking German too sometime around WWI)

ok the very last update of the poll!!

....and wow talk about movement!!!

One GB in the space of 12 hours has managed to gain 9 votes??? I have never seen a jump like that before this late in the poll!! Has someone found a way to multi vote?

Only 3 new member votes over this time period.

Now with basically 5 hours to closing time what will happen, are these the final results or are we going to see some savage last minute bloodshed????

Thank you Rich for all your effort making these updates throughout the GB. They are really enjoyable and essential!👍🙏🍻

I hope your own GB 'go large or go home' goes through! It looks dicey right now. 🫣
