Heinkel 119 - my first vac form in 40 years

Recommended Posts

06-FE060-B-8290-416-F-B4-A2-7-AD98-AB50-For some reason I had completely forgotten I had in a moment of weakness bought this off eBay. Now it’s a vac form and it’s somewhat off from my usual fare so if it doesn’t get built for this GB it probably won’t get built :) so here it is.

Now you may or may not be aware of my  aversion ( well not mine specifically) to nazi tail markings so I may either finish it as the floatplane version or ( possibly more interesting) Japanese markings as at least once prototype was supplied to the Japanese for evaluation.

You do enjoy a challenge

Yes it’s my naturally self destructive nature :) . I’m nervous about the nose and the gull wing on this one, I can see the former being extremely difficult to get right.

Went back to take a look at the nose in particular and can see why you have concerns. Which way are the kit parts broken down?

Conventional left right split. I could see myself making my own. A three way split might make more sense.

You are too modest - it is, I think, the challenge  that speaks to your creative mind.

Thank you, hopefully true :)

Making your own might be the better solution as a vertical join isn't going to work well for that small triangular section at the upper front pane.

D1-E1533-E-B73-E-4-D1-F-915-C-5-BACC038-The floatplane version which is even more mad,I mean take a high speed bomber/reconnaissance aircraft add huge unwieldy floats and what do you get a slow sitting duck.

Two of the 6(?) prototypes were sold to Japan, most likely as not they were in RLM 02 but with Hinnomaru in place of the various crosses.

As a fan of float planes, I definitely would vote for that version.

Just a suggestion but someone might have a pair of floats from the Ju52 if they built the wheeled version, might be worth asking on wanted section ?

Best of luck.

Cheers Pat

A great choice.  I had one of these in my stash for years (before selling it on). IIRC, there was no prop or u/c provided - just the parts you've shown

No just the parts shown and a clear sheet for the canopy.

0-B1-D3-DE3-9-CD2-49-AC-BE87-F9-C4-BC595Added in a bulkhead to be the back of the cockpit and a dowel to give the whole think a bit of structure.

6-AF3-C514-D1-B5-4-EC7-98-D7-384-A50-D0-some filler and the tail attached. I’ve put a brass rod through it for strength.

Started a n the wings. Sanded the edges and added some balsa attached with double sided tape.

1814-B642-CA29-401-B-B43-A-29-C927-AAB2-Both wings clamped into submission. I’ll probably put some brass rod through the wing roots into the dowel in the fuselage to give the whole thing a bit of strength.
