Can someone tell me what folks gain from criticising what are otherwise really great kits?  I mean; we're talking commercially available plastic model kits out of boxes. If scale and accuracy are that important, why are you even bothering with plastic, how come you're not building to scaled plans from metal, I mean anything else is just going to be wrong isn't it?.

It seems to me that folks are judging these kits to a standard that Meng and others are not holding themselves to, it 's like criticising someone for getting a great grade in GSCE History by suggesting that the mark isn't good enough for A-level economics. It just makes no sense to me

It's less than £70 for perhaps one of the best F4 kits on the market, and all folks can do is have a downer on it. it's weird, like some odd competition to be the most Judgey Mcjudgy pants

Because people have a right to ask for the the best possible.

Models, also should be factually accurate representations.

If a model maker makes a model of, say a Phantom with Norwegian markings and WWII weapons, then people are right to point that out.

A modeller can of course make up his own mind whether the mistake is big enough to put them off buying a kit, or small enough to be fixable with aftermarket, or even if it is so small as to ignore it, but the discussion is valid.

Wow!  I just picked up the Meng F-4G.  I am finding myself opening it up and looking it over many times.

It looks like the most BUILDABLE F4 ever.  Fuselage and lower wing are only 3 pieces!  Fuselage basically one molded piece and has splendid detail on spine that would have been lost if it was two halves!  Great design..

I just ordered the Meng F4E.  I already have ZM, Tamiya, Hasegawa, Academy F4s.  I would assume Tamiya is good, but they are far too slow to market with other versions.

Looking forward to getting thru this cateract surgery so I can build models again.  This Meng F4G will be one of my first efforts!

Great job Meng!

Hi .... this is my first post to. Can I use this Meng F-4E to made a Viet Nam bird?

thanks a lot

Slats started appearing in late 1972. So yes you can if you keep it to very late in the war.

Are the Meng Panel lines as deep as they appear in some photo's?.

Not Italeri like 🙂 Same as Meng Superhornets and ZM Phantoms.

They were deployed as part of Rivet Haste, but only saw service for a few weeks before America's involvement in the Vietnam War ended.

You can find a photo of the first F-4E (sn. 71-0237) with factory installed slats, the TISEO and the 556 cockpit modifications in Squadron Signal's F-4E Walkaround book. No tail code, just RRRRIBIT painted in yellow on the tail near the root. All F-4E's built from serial number 71-0237 and up had thicker belly skin reinforcement and no belly strap. The belly strap was installed on the F-4Es that were modified from hard wings to slatted wings.

"Some 71 model F-4Es with LES and TISEO were sent to the 432nd TFRW (later 432nd TFW) under project Rivet Haste. They were assigned to the 555th TFW which had exchanged their F-4Ds for F-4Es either shortly before or during Linebacker II. The Rivet Haste F-4Es were uncoded and initially had RRRRIBIT in yellow on the tail, which was later painted out and just the fin cap was painted green. From Smoke Trails, Vol. 3 # 4, Tail Codes, 432 TFRW, by Harley Copic. By 1975, when Saigon fell, I'm sure that the F-4Es still flying in Thailand had the LES installed. Most of them were later sent to Clark and Korea."

Meng's F-4E will need a TISEO. I'm sure the aftermarket makers will be 3D printing one up shortly.

¡Hola!. Esta es mi primera publicación en este increíble foro.

¿Puedo usar este modelo para hacer un avión israelí de Yom Kippur de 1973? He visto una hermosa hoja DXM con marcas IDF.

¡Gracias!

Is it possible to make a Hellenic version with this model? Any suggestions for decals?

Awesomesauce.
Only thing remaining is the one-piece windscreen, but I guess that's a bit too niche :P

Did any of the Hasegawa 1/48th F-4's come with TISEO?.

If not i guess these new sets with fit the older Hasegawa kits.

Do you know which kits, i'd guess the E's?

The slatted F-4E kits came with the TISEO. The Republic of Korea boxing included a resin LORAN doghouse antenna seen on F-4Es with the ARN-101 mod.
