Whirlykits1/72nd English Electric P1A WG760 1954

This is a resin kit of the first British Aircraft to exceed the speed of sound in level flight. Developed as a transonic experimental aircraft, the specification indicated that it should be capable of development as a fighter. One look at the shape of the aircraft gives it away as what aircraft the fighter was.

The build wasn't too bad. It needed a bit more filler than I would have liked, but that sometimes happens with resin kits and nowhere near Magna levels. The vacform canopy does not look as tidy as it could, it needed a lot of work to fair in. Kit decals were used that were fragile in the extreme without some microscale Liquid Decal Film

Build is here

Hi folk's the now quite rare Revell kit of the Typhoon prototype some say it's actually a model of the Mock up and I've heard it only had one release replaced in their range.

This is my build of the old Frog Do-335 as reboxed by Revell under the Matchbox Logo. Frog originally released it as either an A-6 nightfighter (which was never produced) or as the A-12 two seat conversion trainer, but Revell just included markings for the V-10 prototype for the A-6, but as you will see from the thread that was somewhat different in appearance without the deepened rear fuselage and second canopy.

I therefore built it as the V-11 prototype for the trainer.

And this is my build of the Hobby Boss Do 335 single seater which is the only one left in existence. Sometimes incorrectly called an A-1 it is in fact the A-02 or second pre-production version of the standard fighter bomber. Here is the build thread.

And this is what it looks like.

DSC07301-crop DSC07303-crop DSC07305-crop

During restoration it was stripped back and it was found that originally Dornier painted it in two shades of green - their painting sheet calls them both "Dunkelgrun" I believe - but it was restored in the perhaps better known versions of RLM 81 Braunviolett and RLM 82 Hellgrun rightly or wrongly. It was an easy enough kit to build except for the monumental blunder they made with the props, as described in the thread.

Albatros CII April 1916: 1/72 scratch build. Only one machine was built as the Germans were not particularly interested in pusher designs. Albatros were asked to design a two seater pusher as the military authorities were surprised at the performance of the RAF FE 2b which had come into service in early 1916 and was having a detrimental impact on the Fokker and Pfalz monoplanes which formed the mainstay of the fighter defences at the time. The CII offered few if any advantages over single seat tractor types and the programme was terminated in the summer of 1916. The build log is here:

Spitfire XVI SL721 “The bodged Spitfire” originally a hack aircraft made from at least two airframes and used by an Air Vice Marshall as personal transport before becoming a regular on the warbird circuit post war in Canada, my depiction is a hybrid, aimed to do the warbird but the decals better represent it in service. As for mine, kits a bodge of two different AZ kits, a wing from a failed mkix and a spare xvi fuselage with spares box bits where necessary, decals from the Eduard Combo set and painted with Humbrol acrylics, the blue being 44 Pastel Blue

Here is my Lindberg 1/48 Convair XFY-1 'Pogo".

Fortunately the ladder is included in the kit!

I made the seat rotate for landing. Here is the landing position.

Tamiya mini cooper 1275S  1/24 scale

Driven by Rauno Aaltonen and Harry Liddon, this Morris Mini Cooper S was the winner of the Monte Carlo Rally in1967. With the competition number 177, this Mini provided the BMC Works team with its third and final Monte Mini victory

Built pretty much OOB except for a bit of extra tubing and wires under the bonnet. Thoroughly enjoyable build that went together really well for such an old kit.

It makes a change for nice simple decals as well for a rally car. Red and white Tamiya rattle cans as I had some that needed using, Tamiya acrylics for the detail bits with hairy sticks. Thanks for all the support and banter along the way :)

Seeing as we've had all the hard frosts this week, it seemed apt to try and get some outside pics with it, not the best but it was too bloody cold to be out there to be honest

Thanks for looking

Ian :)

Bell X-2 '6675'

AZ Model, 1/72

This is my Bell X-2 modelled to depict the type's first glide flight on 27 June 1952. AZ's kit is not the easiest in the world but probably the best of the subject, and I hacked it about to move the wings further back along the fuselage and refined one of two other areas to get it to look about right. Just to give myself some extra work, I scratch-built the dolly. The best part of the kit were the decals, the best part of the project was the research into making it somewhat accurate!

This is my entry for this GB. It is the Special Hobby Super Mystere B2 and using Modeldecal marking to make an aircraft that appeared at the IAT at RAF Greenham Common in 1977. It was on;y painted a few days before the show and it was then removed a few days after the show. The aircraft flew in the air show on the days of the Tattoo.

Ferrari F60 2009

Kimi Raikonnen's car from this year, F60 because it was Ferraris 60th anniversary, but it was a dog of a car that wasn't very competitive or reliable compared to the previous years car.

Tamiya kit, Zero metallic paint and aftermarket decals for barcodes and tyres. Learnt a lot from this, next time using metalflake base coat I'm going to mock the body together then all the panels should look the same colour as although they all had the same amount of coats, the light reflects differently from the angles they were sprayed making them look different shades. Also, I'm never carbon fibre decalling another F1 car unless I have the decal sheet, masking and cutting every one out is a real time consuming ballache. Anyway, here are a few pics. Thanks for looking and following alng in the GB :)

Pics not brilliant, but I don't think it's ever stopped raining for ages, so indoors it is

Hawker tempest Mk V prototype HM595 modified from the Mistercraft, ex Heller Tempest V with the rear fuselage of the Jays/Venturer Tempest Mk I conversion substituted for the kit rear end. It was a build I enjoyed tight up to the fitting of the U/C, it is this kits worst feature imho.
