Airfix 1/72 Rescue Launch

Hi Guy

Many thanks - thats very helpful, especially with the explanation of your method.

I'll have a hunt for some appropriate vents now I know what they look like so thanks for sharing the photo.

I've had my kits a few years (mid eighties boxing that arrived still shrink wrapped!) and have collected a few bits to upgrade it (mostly from DJ Parkins). I ordered some of the mesh you recommended which arrived today - looks very promising.

Looking forward to seeing more progress.

All the best

Ben

Hi Ben, when I did my launch I got my vents from Coastal Craft Models but I'm not sure if they are still trading. You being an armour guy, you could use rivet heads on plastic rod?

Hi Stuart

Thanks for this - I've found an email address for costal craft so will get in touch and see.

If not thats a good idea and will give it a go 👍

Evening all,

To be honest, I’m nearly done. all that remains are the hooped aerials - the one thing I’ve been dreading!

I remember there being a link to a description of how to do these (in German) in one of the build threads, is there a definitive step by step ‘idiots’ guide in English?

Here’s a view of how the dinghy finished up…

  • 2 weeks later...

Evening,

I’ve been distracted this week so away from the bench, found out I probably need a hip replacement.. any one had one? Debating whether I should go ahead or not? Getting old eh? 🙄 (mind you, I’m still only 56… )

I have tried the ring aerials, had 3 attempts and was ok, but frankly not good enough. I just wasn’t happy, so I think I may cop out and just add a single rigging line - I know, I know.. Anyway it’s all done now bar that small addition and will post up some pictures later this week.

I’ve never tried a seascape and I think I really ought to. I’d like to have a go at any rate, so another build is calling. I love the Flyhawk models and have built a few, but I’m never happy with the rigging in 1/700 in close ups, so although I have their Scharnhorst in the stash I thought I might try one of their aircraft carriers - limited rigging! Trouble is, I can’t find one (other than from China) I do want the deluxe version. I think Starling Models have a non deluxe one. Any ideas? I am going to SMW next month, do you reckon someone there would have one?

Thanks in advance for any modelling/ suppliers/ medical advice!

Guy

ps How do I follow someone on here? I’ve forgotten and can’t see any option to do so?

Can't help re SMW - I've not been before but planning to go this year, do you normally get good deals there from suppliers?

Re following people, on a phone if you touch/press on the name it'll take you to their user page and there's a button with like a person and + sign on it you touch/press to follow,

Hi Sam,

Thanks, but some reason I’m getting no friends link or any + sign on their profile page. I’ve followed people before, so I’m now perplexed!

SMW is fabulous, so worth visiting. There are show deals on some things and it’s ginormous - take some shopping bags! I’m there both days so if you fancy a coffee let me know.

Not sure how well my bank balance could cope with to many more purchases but its always hard to say no when there's a good deal,

I'd hoped to have a couple of ships to enter in the competition but a)they're not finished and b) I've not joined the ipms which would make it tricky

However I'll be there rhe Saturday, I'll drop you a mesage closer to the time,

Sam

I just tapped on your name and on the profile page there's a little person symbol with a + sign to follow. If you aren't seeing that, not sure how you could do it.

I'll be at Telford all weekend, hope to see you there. A usual gathering place is Brum IPMS table where Bill @perdu can usually be found. I'm also in the Great War SIG so could be there.

or at the bar...

Hi Ian,

Oddly I do have that + when I look at your profile but not the chap I’m trying to follow? I thought maybe I’m already following him but just checked and I’m not, maybe you can elect not to be stalked - I mean followed 🤭

Thanks,

Guy

Excellent work on the RAF Rescue Launch Guy, one of those kits I always looked at when I was younger, then returned to the shelf in favour of something else.

My father has had both hips replaced and it's made a world of difference to what he can do so definitely something to consider; as with any surgery the important points to remember are to follow what the hospital tell you to do (or not to do) before and after the operation and make sure that you rehabilitate properly.

Telford will be a good opportunity excuse to acquire a suitable recovery project.

Thanks Richard, I’ll bear that in mind. I’m seeing the specialist tomorrow.

Yep, lots of excuses!

Good luck with the specialist Guy.

It would be great to meet and say hi at Telford. I'll be there both days and like Ian @Brandy, I'll be at the gathering with Bill @perdu, and you will also find me co-hosting the IPMS Wessex table (aka Poole Scale Modellers) and the Target Facilities SIG, with @Martian. The two stands should hopefully be adjacent to each other.

I had to have a hip op last October as well at the age of 46! after a while when I was a bit more able to get around bought a 1/48 tamiya spitfire to keep me occupied then made a start on my KGV, so a good excuse to get some projects really, taken a year but worth it in the end, the KGV is taking a bit longer!

I was an Xray technologist for 2 Orthopaedic practices and in a hospital surgical suite - get the replacement!  Too many people delay, end up in more pain and mess up the other hip.  I've been lucky so far, but had a mitral valve replacement surgery September 1 which went well.

Ah that’s interesting Rich, a year seems a long time though!

Well, calling it done….

Apologies for copping out on the ring aerials, but I’ve just presented to Rob and he was absolutely thrilled. He found it quite emotional. What more could you ask for as a modeller? 😃

Thanks for following along and all the advice along the way - not all modelling related!

Just got hold of one of these kits, AND just found this WIP.

You’ve made a stunning looking boat. 👍👍👍👍

I think I’ll be using this for my reference, when I build mine.

Two questions if I may ?

How did you mask the red/white checkering, numbers and roundal ?
