The Other Steve
I'm going to be building some inter-war/early Luftwaffe aircraft and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I can use any old silver paint for "RLM 01 Silber", or is it actually more of a silver-grey like AK Real Color "Silbergrau" (marked RAL 7001 on the side of the bottle)? Thanks

Thanks It's silver paint. RAL7001 is a grey, which I just checked. I can check the Monogram German Paint guide in daylight, but from memory it's aluminium paint. I'll @SafetyDad as well. Seawinder
The Monogram chip is a satin silver color -- somewhat shiny, but not glossy.
The Other Steve
Thanks guys - so a good match might be something like a dull aluminium?
Black Knight
I mixed Humbrol 11 Silver and 56 Aluminium in equal amounts to get a slightly shiny aluminium

I'd be thinking RAF Aluminium dope. it's aluminium powder in lacquer. I think these are in RLM 01 Ar 76 Fw 56 JEC 00836 by Jeffrey Ethell Collection, on Flickr
825
I use it sometimes for post war FAA aircraft, as getting an acrylic High Speed Silver is a challenge. Its a slightly grey and dull aluminium colour which gives food coverage. Whether I'm correct or not is debatable but I'm happy with it.
Ptmvarsityfan
I use the Xtracrylix RLM01 for pre-war silver RAF aircraft, not too metallic. I think "high-speed silver" was a post-war term for the old aluminium dope Cheers, Paul
The Other Steve
Thanks all for your input. Given that it was indeed a silver/aluminium colour rather than silver-grey I dont think I'm going to stress too much about it and just go with whatever silver/aluminium colour is to hand 🙂
