Allan31
I'm so glad I discovered this GB. This website is so vast and filled with all sorts of excellent topics there are so many I miss. Perhaps a good thing I discovered this late, I have dozens I could have submitted, especially all those old Revell fighters... As an indication of the madness, I have 64 images like this in my album,....insane... Anyway, after a couple of days with this GB simmering on the back burner and poking around the stash to listen to what would be calling me I remembered this old kit in a bag. After just completing the Monogram SE5a, I was looking for an excuse to build this and here you are. I'm sure there are others here but it occurred to me this kit answers to all three companies in the GB, Aurora, Revell and Monogram all made this kit. In the spirit of the GB building older kits, I will not go crazy on this as I did the SE5a, no real need to anyway. I will tweak it a little here and there however. I've always wanted to do Brown's aircraft in the generally excepted scheme it wore when he engaged Richthofen on his last flight. Thanks for this GB !!! Corsairfoxfouruncle
Welcome sir and with “Browns” Camel, when I built this kit a few years ago I did his bird also.
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Just noticed your post in Monogram/Revell previous builds. I like that you went with the box-art schemes, though to be honest the lilac Messerschmitt was a bit of a eye shocker.

Allan31
Starting with the cockpit, I used the only two parts they gave me, a seat and joy stick and added the rest I needed for some interest. I faked a wicker seat, not much to be seen down that little hole. Seat cushion made from putty. I will add belts. I sanded away the raised ailerons and then scribed them, I sanded the heavy ribbing back to something less toy like. Everything is almost ready for a coat of primer, I'm hoping I get to some color this weekend.
Allan31
As with the Monogram SE5a, the struts were very thick. I thinned down the cabane and interplane struts with a sanding stick. A final fitting of everything and seems we're ready for primer to see were we stand. I have one last seam I spotted on the fuselage but we're ready for colors. Sadly a hard stop on this for a couple of weeks. One of my other passions calls me away for a week and then another passion calls me away for week after that. Camping and canoeing first, then auto racing second for our almost final race of the year. See you all in a couple of weeks !!! Enjoy this super fun GB !!! Allan31
Historic Formula Ford, 1600cc. Cheap, fun racing, best bang for the buck. The canoe is a wood/canvas Old Town from 1926, great excuse to go fly fishing as well... https://www.ffchallengeseries.com/copy-of-2021-jefferson-500-at-summit Poke around. Allan31
It's a sickness....... I should be loading canoes, packing backpacks, tying flies and instead I'm painting a Camel. I'm fine..... I sprayed on a coat of Vallejo US flat Brown, 71.026. I dry streaked on some Mahogany, 71.036. I think I will try black next time... I then mixed the Mahogany about 50/50 with future and laid that on until I liked it. I think I went one layer too many. It's is there but I think a little too subtle. I am experimenting with a new recipe for my PC-10. The cherry red is Vallejo 71.102. Now I'm going to load....
Allan31
Glacial progress but progress..... I took my PC10 and added something to lighten it for the ribs. I then masked the ribs and added the PC10 full strength. I know it's very contrasty but I like the control for toning the ribs down later. I took my PC10 and cut it with about a 50/50 mix of Future and toned down the ribs. This allowed me to heavy up the leading edge with PC10 more solidly and fade out the ribs. I was finally able to get to the decal stage. The AeroMaster decals went on great with no problems. Later today a coat of Future over everything and hopefully some weathering with oils and other grungy stuff tonight.
jean
Hi Allan, this Camel is shaping up very well indeed. It will look great when all the bits and pieces have been added to each other. I have this kit and for some reason I lost interest very quickly... Well done so far. JR
CliffB
That paintwork is looking very nice Allan, particularly your treatment of the ribs

Allan31
Finally got some time to finish this up. Glad I made the deadline. Some scratched bits, no aftermarket. Vallejo paints with E-Z line rigging. Sorry about some of the pics, I think my white balance in the camera is screwy. The ubiquitous bottom shot. I did Roy Brown's aircraft in what seems to be the generally excepted scheme on the day he encountered von Richthofen. Another oldie I did as a kid redone with AMS. Thanks for looking....
