for the first time, she's on her own three wheels.  Still a fair bit to do on the small parts and minor bits of weathering, but you get the picture :)

Looking very nice indeed, I assume the undercarriage went together with no problems?

Thanks for taking us along on on your building journey.

I had put the leg assemblies together without referring to the completed gear bay assembly, mainly because it wasn't built at the time, so I had to tweak the fitting of the non-bronze parts that form the upper supports when it's right-way up.  Just a fractional misalignment at the leg-end led to a larger end-point discrepancy at the airframe end, so I had to ease the glue with a scalpel, properly position them, then re-glue them together.  Not a big job, but in need of a steady hand.  If I was to build it again, I'd probably leave the landing gear until I'd got a completed bay to put it in :)

I finally got the masking off, and OMG am I a fan of the Tface double-sided masking from Eduard, as it gives the glazing an awesome 3D look to it once you peel it all off :tasty:

The clear lights were added once they'd been based with silver, then had the necessary clear red/green/blue added as per the instructions.  The aerial is my usual invisible mending thread with some super glue bumps to replicate the insulators.  I took the precaution of cutting a groove in both pegs, so it was a easy enough to do.  I've just noticed that I forgot to put two tiny PE antennae under the belly, so if you were wondering what those wee holes were, that's where they go.

I had a heap of fun building this when I could find the time, and can heartily recommend it.  It builds just as well with or without aftermarket, and if we're going to be sticklers, I should have put the blank disc hub caps on the wheels, but I just didn't want to hide all that detail away ^_^ Sue me ;) I think this might be my first WWII US carrier aircraft, but it won't be my last.  Here's a link to the rest of the photos in the WIP section, thanks for watching

Hey Mike!

sorry, I’ve been relatively quiet recently, but I’m still here, observing from the sidelines!

This is just the inspiration I needed to get back into it, to get back at the bench. It was the ready for inspection pictures that led me here and you deserve all the praise and recognition for the fantastic result you’ve got from this incredible kit.

Eduard’s bank balance should be a little bit healthier today as I’ve just bought the midway dual combo release.

Cheers mate and where did those last 12 years go??!!

Cheers Marcus - I was wondering where you were

Hi Mike, I've just been doing some research for a possible wildcat build and came across your thread. Absolutely lovely work there, really really excellent.
