Revell Hanomag Trailer - Finished

OK so @Hockeyboy76's nudge initiated some running around in circles, screaming. First, I hadn't realized this is already Blitz Build weekend, second, I have quite some things to do. And third, I thought I had nothing good in the stash so a trip to the LHS would be needed (not that I mind going there, of course).

But. After the adrenaline surge had passed and the stash inspected and evaluated more closely I came away with this one.

In the late '90's, Revell in Germany set about to create a series of iconic trucks. One was the Büssing 8000 (I have one of those), and there's also the Krupp Titan (two of those in my cupboard, well why not 🙂). Unfortunately, that was it, no more trucks were produced and you'll have to rely on an occasional reboxing or the second hand sites if you want one.

Revell did produce one other item in the range and that is this Hanomag trailer which I got together with one of the Krupps. It's big, but in fact this is perfect for "Blitzing" as there aren't that many parts and they're mostly huge. Also, this stuff tends to remain in the stash forever so that's another reason to get it out and get it built, because I buy kits to build them.

Let's see what's in the box. These are all chassis and wheels sprues.

The load bed.

And lastly the cover. I don't think I'll be using it, I rather like the open bed. Plus, I think it needs a little too much time to paint properly. The moulding does look convincing though.

I will be going for a slightly scruffy look and I hope to be able to get in some wiring. I may have some time tomorrow but mostly it will come down to Sunday.

Good luck with your builds and have fun!

Hi everybody, there's builds well underway already, I'm ready to join the fun for a couple of hours. There's a bbq to attend later this afternoon. This morning, I took apart our tumble dryer to get to the "self cleaning" condensor. Turns out that after some years the "self cleaning" mechanism needs a helping hand. Only thing is, you have to almost completely take the whole thing apart to get to it. Which I did. It's been re-assembled and it's waiting for its first load. The tumbling was fine but the drying part took forever and wasn't satisfactory at all. So I'm curious to see if any improvement has been achieved.

Anyway, let's get started!

Two hours in and that's it for this afternoon. I've built up the ladder chassis.

I had to switch to a black background because the timestamp wasn't visible.

Good morning all. I had a nice bbq last night (no pics 🙂) and I'm ready for a day of trailering. I think I'll assemble some wheels first. They look quite nicely moulded.

That's my custom Metallica font tea mug. It's nice and big. No music though, it's kind of quiet around the house for some reason.

Wheels have been assembled, that was an easy job of course. Revell put wheels for three axles in the box and the trailer only has two, so the surplus is going in the spares box. You can never have enough wheels.

They're nicely moulded as well, certainly better than the standard Italeri wheels.

I made some good headway on the trailer itself as well.

Time for a break and have something high on proteine but low on fat and sugar. I know, boring 🙂

Time to get back in the melee and get this sprue empty. It's axles!

I put on some music as well, got the ol' subwoofer going with a nice Klaudia Gawlas techno set.

Nice work so far dude. Enjoy the rest of the build.

Thanks dude, happy trucking!

In the meantime, that's the rear axle finished. Some nice detail.

And installed on the chassis. Front bogie assembled. Making good time.

Revell even provided a piece of hose. I don't think I'll be adding more, but I'm not sure yet. I'm hungry now, not the best time to make decisions 🙂

I'm getting some lunch now, and it's nice outside so I'll go ahead and grab some sunlight as well.

Btw, good news from the dryer front... it's working perfectly again. That thing was leaking money, it was getting up to twice the time needed for a cycle as compared to when it was new. Next time I'm buying one which is easier to clean, I don't want to make a habit of pulling stuff like that apart.

It's painting time! But first I'll have a drink and ponder about the colour of the load bed. It's a fair slab of plastic.

I'll paint chassis and load bed separately. Decided on no more wiring.

I can tell you I blew through quite a bit of paint for this one, especially primer. But it's done.

The two parts are still separated and are currently outside to assist the flashing off. Almost there, and then a quick clear coat.

In the meantime I can work on the tyres. They're very solid items, quite good actually. But they cannot be used as is.

20220828165924-411bc511-me.jpg

On the left a bright and shiny tyre out of the box. The middle one has been sanded, the one on the right has had a bit of weathering powder after sanding.

That's it for today. I put everything together, weathered the rims a little and sprayed very thin Flat Earth over the whole thing so as to get the dirty / dusty look.

Now this all needs to dry out properly. Come to think of it, I don't think there's a number plate decal on the sheet. Hmm, I'll check that. I'll go back in tomorrow and spend maybe an hour on some (semi) dry brushing, and then it will be done.

By the way, this must be the heaviest model I have made so far. These tyres are huge and they weigh a ton!

It looks great.
I hated “A” frame draw bar trailers. The damn things are a nightmare to reverse. It wasn’t unusual to find a badly parked one or should I say abandoned 🤣

Evening all, I'm going to do a final bit of weathering and call it done. And there are actually two parts still on the sprues.

Done. Splattered it with some goo and I think it looks alright. A good excuse to get out the Titan or the Büssing at some point 🙂

Total build time just under 15 hours. I'm going to shoot some better pics tomorrow when it's lighter outside. This will do for now.

Thanks for watching and thanks to hosts for another fun build!
