Bless my soul it’s a Fairey Firefly in 1/48 by Trumpeter

Recommended Posts

Splendid painting and finishing is frankly a given with you Johnny, and manifestly on display here.  The Firefly also easily survives close contact with unforgiving macro-photography.  Luvverly job.

Aaaaaargh! 😱  😱

Good thing you managed to save that roundel!

Of course  had you painted that on, you'd have been a happy camper from the start, alas....

:D

Great save on the windshield too, and the weathering is up to your usual (high) standard :worthy:

Looking forward to the RFI :tasty:

Ciao

Yes I know. Decals are the devil! 😈. Thanks G. RFI soon. I break up in a week until next year so lloottss of time. 😇

Great work Johnny, glad you managed to save the roundel and get the windscreen sorted too, you have done a fantastic job bringing the Trumpeter kit up to scratch with your 3D printed bits and have an  unusual looking machine in this scheme.

Great work

Chris

Thanks Chris for the kind words and Thanks again for your help. 🤩

That's a great result, Johnny! Nice saves on the screen and the decal. I'll look forward to the RFI, as well as seeing what's next on your bench :)

James

Thanks James. I think I have chosen the next path. 🥸

What a roller coaster of an update! More drama than an anniversary edition of East Enders. Looking fab, although I think seeing a classic FAA fighter in trainer colours fits my definition of “cognitive dissonance“!

Will check out the RFI.

Regards,

Adrian

Thanks Adrian. It’s Prototype which I think is different.  Ahhh yes there’s Troy.  I have a few now with yellow bums. 💛

Wow!! 😻  Great save on the decal and canopy!  Another beautiful build Johnny!  After seeing your work, I really need to look into using Flory wash.  Plus, you've inspired me to think about building a Firefly someday -- I really didn't know anything about the type until this build came along.

Flory washes are magnificent. I can highly recommend them. 😎

Delicious colours and textures Johnny; the yellow tonalities in that penultimate photo are just so wonderfully rich. 👏

Thanks Tony. Far too kind. 😍

Thanks Steve. This was a fun build for sure. Something more up your street next I think. 😉

Well well. I guess this will be the penultimate post. The aerial wire has been fitted and all little touch ups done. I have spent most of the week trying to choose what to build next but I think I have settled on something a little speedier. 😉

And bigger.

I’ll start the new build before I do the RFI for my last two builds but I have quite a lot of time off over Christmas so they won’t be long coming. I break up on the 9th so some time after that.

No work pics but a few shots for you wonderful folk who followed along.

so until I sign off in a week here are a few pics of the 🔥🪰.

Congrats Johnny, this is a beautiful job done ! I enjoyed reading the WIP and the additional details are inspiring, especially taking out the glued windshield and clean up the internal surface. I encountered similar situation but I am not brave enough to cut it open again. Kudos !

It is a high quality piece of model kit you have added to your collection.

Nice job Johnny,  I had never thought I would ever see a DE and DG Firefly,  but it certainly looks fantastic.   Great build with all your 3D extras too.

Chris

Thanks Chris. I do love the regular schemes but I do lean toward custard quite a bit. 🤩

Thanks Ernest. I can highly recommend (if you have it) Gators grip for clear parts as it’s easy to get them off in such occasions. Pva might work too.

Up to your usual high standards Johnny.

....and we've had words about "elevators" before.

Write it out 100 times!

Ian

Elevators, elevators, elevators. I thought we called them “lifts” over here. 🤔🫣

Sorry. 😀🤣

Just thought I’d pop a plug in here for my next build.

pop on over if you feel the urge. The fire’s on and there’s a brandy waiting.
