Fantastic work on the cockpit.

It's going to look brilliant when painted up.

Looking forward to more.

Cheers,

Alistair

Thanks. It’s going to look ok I think. 😍

Hey, it's only the next county along Johnny, easy mistake for a Midlander to make 😉

Alas a 3D set up is a ways down on my current list of priorities, but I keep thinking of all the posibilities ... 🤔  Seeing what you and others on here are knocking out of the park is really inspiring 🙌

(I'm currently modelling deoderant products in Blender, plus a large property development Archviz in the South Downs. I'm getting my head around the building side of things, so it's not a giant leap for me to think about linking this skill to maybe making -insert obscure aeroplane/vehicle of choice here- ... )

Thanks, my geography has always been a little lack lustre. 🤪

knowledge of 3D computer construction would be necessary to build stuff but it sounds like you have that down so. Go for it I say. 😇

Seems like I'm missing a good build here. Better late than never.

Always loved the Firefly, having built early Airfix and Frog versions many years ago. Like @corsaircorp, I have three 1/48 in the stash, the Grand Phoenix Mk I, a Special Hobby U Mk 8 and a Special Hobby Mk IV/V. All great models.

A Trumpeter Firefly will be interesting, and of course the 3D angle a splendid addition!

Following with relish.

Terry.

Thanks Terry. Welcome. 😇

I always found it hard to believe they were even the same scale. The Airfix one looked so petite next to the other.

Super printing Johnny!

Adrian

Thanks. 😀

Fashionably late for the Big Show as is usual for me. But no matter, A Firefly+ Corrections/3D plus a Monty Python and the Holy Grail re-enactment to boot! I'm all in on this one.

Don't mind me I'll be over here ------------------------------->:drink::popcorn: Watching Lurking studying,  occasionally  tossing spit balls at those asleep.

Welcome. 😅

Hey you lot.

A quick question. I did some cockpit prep last night. I have seen colours as green and black. Here’s a black one.

There are some green ones that have been shared earlier on in the thread.

I was going to go green.

Thoughts?

The FAAM Firefly Mk.1 (Z2033) is definitely Interior Green. It's actually a TT1 built in 1944. I think the photos in the Warpaint book are from the FAAM Firefly Mk.IV. I took photos of both in the early 2000s, but they are not digital images.

Yes I thought this too but the above pic is a Mk1 also.  I’m wishing for green.

I'd trust @iang on this but @NAVY870  may have some input.

Apart from the upper cockpit in Typhoons and Tempests, WW2 British cockpits from images were grey-green.

FWIW, what can be vaguely made out here does not look black, click on image to enlarge

this is no good for the front, but the bits of the rear are visible, and they are not black, and maybe handy for for general reference...

Such a sad afternoon. 👑🙁

I have spent the evening listening to the stories on the radio and modelling my little aeroplane. This is how it went.

Thanks for the BM hive mind I got the advice on how to proceed. ❤️
The resin parts got cleaned up and dry fitted. Not too bad. 😀

52341735826_d34af4a1b2_b.jpg

The seat pads fit too. ❤️

52342366086_55e49a6c4d_b.jpg

Here is the layout of the front office with new bits.

52342366051_c21203de4e_b.jpg

I think that’s enough with a few little wires and levers we’re away. 🤩

Everything got popped on sticks and primed.

52340776207_0da57b6f14_b.jpg

Then a nice pre-shade.

52344170064_af7f300899_b.jpg

I forgot to remove @perdu’s shadow hump. So I got the blade to it and sprayed again. 🙃

52344107233_4ed602d825_b.jpg

Now!!! We are green

52344170024_104bc92dab_b.jpg

with a bit of brown / red.

52342910667_b7f33b430f_b.jpg

I’ll let that dry before going in for the details.

Thanks for spending some time looking in.

Rest in peace Elizabeth you did us proud. 😔

Nice work there, Johnny. Your 3d bits really make for an interesting office, I definitely need to get myself a 3d printer as/when funds allow!

What is not to like about ta Firefly. I remember both the Airfix and Frog kit and maybe built a few of each. I've never though of building in the gentleman's scale but maybe now...

Neat work on the printed parts.

Isn’t the gentleman’s scale 1/72. I’m I confusing myself? 🤪

Thanks Alan. Plenty of snacks, you’ll be fine. 😆

Thanks. Almost got it together today too.

Good evening you lot. Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. I managed some more on the work this weekend although most of my time has been taken doing chores. (How dull)

First off all the painted parts got a gloss coat before a Flory wash of dark dirt.

52351345235_9f7a6bedb6_b.jpg

Not too bad of the bat. The little details really ping out.

52349971552_3503a00011_b.jpg

I knocked back the awash with a cotton bud and did a bit of a dry fit.

52351243769_36d65187b7_b.jpg

Quite happy with that. 😇

The IP is looking ok too. Just remembered I need to cut off those connecting tabs.

52351243579_a3c72684b8_b.jpg

And for all the new bits and bobs.
In between waiting for the flory to dry and office construction I tinkered with this bit.

52350922546_dcab8ce244_b.jpg

Now the wells get a real bashing in this kit and yes the shape is wrong but it’s not that hard of a fix surely. They’rea hell of a lot better that they 1/24 Airfix Messerchmit I built. You didn’t even get wheel wells. 🤣

Fitted they’re really not bad.

52351166038_27684ebc9e_b.jpg

But I know it’s an issue and if I don’t address it I’m done for. So… nurse.

52351243929_4af8d7077f_b.jpg

I was contemplating adding walls to the inner but it would make the whole structure too small so. “Off with her head”

52351243594_f308fd23cf_b.jpg

Now the plan is to file that flat and re instate with plastic card and scratch a new well. I could indeed of printed this but my thought is that most of the wells is good and I’m not going to use printing just because.  I re build the messerchmit ones so I’m sure these will make me eat my words. 🤣 A dry fit gave the impression that it might just work.

52351166418_871a50c954_b.jpg

Now having been burnt before, this not being my first rodeo and once bitten etc etc I decided to for the other bits around the wells together to make sure they, you know, fit. 😇

52351166458_715f4c9531_b.jpg

glad that I did too as the fuselage only just cleared the rounded section, probably why they made them round in the first place. 🤔🤔🤔 I guess I’ll have to make that point the farthest point on the new square well.
doing that makes everything fit again.

52350922106_8ed5875233_b.jpg

Phew!
now while cutting things off g to dry fit I did notice one thing that I’m not happy with and it’s the gates where the tree meets the part.

52350922551_e01478b35f_b.jpg

It’s not huge but it’s right on mating point.

If you use snips to remove the part you get lumps everywhere. Not great but not a deal breaker. As a parting shot I made some aeroplane noises. 🙄😜😂

52349971217_cdebd4b115_b.jpg

I painted some cupboard door handles in the cellar.

52351345785_00d96207fb_b.jpg

Modelling has its uses. 😉

Autumn is upon us dear hearts.

52351243874_8b33439abe_b.jpg

More soon.

Thanks for dropping by, all comments welcome.
