SarmaT
Greeting to the community! Want to demonstrate my recently built model of I-16. Actually, I had a desire to have aircrafts of Spanish Civil war in collection long ago. But it required type 5 or 10 for I-16 and there were no decent model at the time. Of course, I couldn't resist the most attractive prototype with cartoon Popeye the Sailor at the tail, belonged to Republicans, 4 Esquadrille de Mosca pilots Morales and Zarauza (1937-38). I started this model in April (after a month of the war beginnig) and have building it for three months. I didn't even try to make any additions - wanted to relax, to be distracted from heavy thoughts and make this model fast. That's why it's mainly out of the box. Even the machine guns and pitot tube I left from the kit. Worked with it only by weekends. I'd like to show the pictures of the ready model first and then show a little bit of the construction. Sorry, if the pictures are too many. I also tried to show the model at different background. Edited April 12, 2023 by SarmaT

SarmaT
A few words about the assemling of this model. As I mentioned before, the kit itself is so detailised that I decided to make it out of the box. And so it did: minimum additions. The plastic includes options for early versions of the wing, pilot's seat and wheels (a wider distance between the ribs, a pilot's seat without an armored back and narrow wheels for early version). Perhaps the prototype I've chosen hadn't got all these features of early variant, but for me this was a chance to show the history of the development of the aircraft. But let me show it step by step. Considering the door open, and little is visible in the fuselage opening, I decided not to bother with detailing: no rods, wires or cables. Just made a slightest wash on the sides and some chipping on the floor. However, after the assembly is completed, I think that the wiring could've been done - they would have been partially visible. The acquaintance with the decal begins from the beginning of the assembly - this is the dashboard and mechanisms on the sides. I'd like to note that the decal is excellent: both in terms of elasticity and density of colors. The white color is dense and does not show through even on black. The decal is also welded perfectly (in my case with the help of Mr. Mark Softer and Mr. Mark Setter). By the way, the kit contains two decals - one for photo-etching, which will be in the future. Among the few additions, are the belts (made from parchment paper and wire). Belts are important, since they are always visible in all aircrafts. With the pilot's seat, I made a mistake - I made a later one with an armored back. Inside parts I painted with AKAN acrylic AMT-7. The assembly itself did not cause me much trouble, but I used some putty. Fitting itself is good, just a lot of joints. The most difficult thing is to save tide rivet. I failed to do, so in some places it had to be restored. Since I decided to work with the parts from the kit, I simply drilled out the nozzles. Shields, by the way, look a little oversized (thick), but there's nothing to be done - these are certain the limitations of plastic. Again, p/e shields and belts are supposed to be included in the next edition. One of the few, but mandatory additions - I pulled the "tows" from the wheels (ribbon thread). I wanted to make the cowl blinds half opened (just to show their existence). To do this, I had to make the blinds themselves thinner, and took off some plastic from the inside. Coupling tape on the cowl - self-adhesive foil. The bottom was painted by Vallejo RLM84 with the addition of RLM76 (3:1) to achieve necessary grey-blue. The top - AIIz from AKAN. Republican Red Stripes - Citadel "Evil Sunz Scarlet". Washing and weathering were done with my favourite technic oil paints and white-spirit. Chips - watercolor pencil (aluminum), but only on matt varnish. On the cowl, where I used satin varnish, the pencil did not work. There had to be a brush. On the Vallejo propeller, the aluminum is very natural and a nice color. Unfortunately, at first I used aluminum from Mr.Hobby - I thought it was an enamel. It looks amazing, but only before you touch it, and the masks - they tear it off. Therefore, the cockpit glass also had to be redone and it did not come out very neatly. By the way, for such a small, but complex cockpit glass, masks are the MUST included in the kit). I could not resist the temptation and made the sight support (don't know the proper name for it) of wires. Rear navigation light - drawn transparent sprue. Side ones on wings - Molotov Chrome marker and transparent varnishes. Airfield dust, in my opinion, I put a little bit more than required. The only hope that the dry soil of Spain justifies it. That, it seems, is all. Well, if I missed something, then please ask questions. The assembly of this model was not difficult and took me three months. It's fast at my pace, given that I was able to work on the model mostly on weekends. Moreover, about 2/3 of the time were taken by paint works. Anyway, I had some fun with this kit and the good thing it did not pass into long-term construction. 1

Shorty84
Wow, great build and a really nice paintjob 👍 The Clearprop kit seems to be very well detailed OOB. And many thanks for sharing your detailed impressions of the kit with us. Can't wait what kit will get your 'treatment' next. 8 hours ago, SarmaT said: Sorry, if the pictures are too many. Right now I'm eager to finish Mirage IIIE 1/72 by Modelsvit. It's at the stage ready for primer. As far as I understood, I can join WIP thread at this stage and continue assembling. Lightningboy2000
I really don't know if I could concentrate on models if war was close at hand like that! And there was me making models while trying to get engineers to fix my gas boiler & replace an immersion heater! It pales in comparison to what you've been through. Clearprop clearly make some stunning 1/72 models and I love the work you've done on that interior. As a fellow die hard 1/72 fan I think I'm going to enjoy your results! Martin Martin, during the war I've made only I-16 and only after the first month had passed. First month was really depressing - we went to bed with the news and as soon as woke up rushed to the news again. Only after russian troops were pushed back from Kyiv I realised that need to come back to a regular life. Otherwise, one can go crazy. Modelism appeared to be as a meditation, as a prayer, as a relief. As for Mirage from Modelsvit, I started it last year and left it abandoned. Now I would like to finish it. As for Clearprop, they prepare a surprise for us:
