Airfix Hurricane Mk1

After enjoying building the 1/24 Spitfire Vb recently I decided to extend the masochism by tackling the Hurricane. This one went together ok generally, although the cowlings weren't a good enough fit to be removable. The redundant Spit Mk1 propeller and spinner were used instead of the Hurri's oversized bulbous one, which I never liked.

The glaring errors were all my own; once I'd decided to replace the spinner I searched on line for more suitable markings, and I came across the Science Museum's L1592. Unfortunately I'd stencilled these on before I realised the original is a rag wing, so 0pts for research. My other error was to place the fuselage roundels too far to the rear, meaning there wasn't enough space on the starboard side to fit the KW-Z squadron code. The only solution was to apply it in Z-KW format, but as few others are going to see it other than me and the BM bretheren it's a compromise I can live with, it was never going to be an IPMS Nationals contender anyway:

Well done for sticking with it and turning out a very nice replica, errors and all.

Always wished this was one kit that got the "New Moulds" treatment.

Although I can appreciate your honesty about the 'mistakes' you made with this kit, it does not take down the striking end result one bit. Beautiful model, love the shots with its brethren in arms too.

Hi, 

I agree with Luka, we all make mistakes in our builds and they might be glaring to us, but your honesty with the fuselage codes is great.  It does not detract from your model in the slightest. The finish is very good and a great paint job.

It's come out a treat, looks so much better with that prop hub on. I wouldn't of noticed about the markings and it doesn't detract from being a great model. Love the pics with the others too

It looks like a Hurricane, it quacks like a Hurricane and it no doubt waddles like a Hurricane too....

Exceptional fit and finish on a monster kit.  You do like 'em big, don't you?  That said - I've most of the 24th scale Trumpy kits to build - so I can't call you out on it lol 

You've definitely made the right call to replace the spinner and prop, looks far more realistic imho!!
