The Start of Africa: H.J Marseille's Bf 109F-4/Trop

Recommended Posts

Another day, another Luftwaffe build from me. This time it's the Hasegawa Bf 109F-4/Trop in 1:48 with markings for Marseille's last Bf 109F before moving to the ill-fated G-2/Trop. The kit decals are cracked and are beyond saving, so I'll use a mix from Xtradecals, Academy and Hobby Boss ones.

This is a special edition with resin wheels. Regular ones are also included.

Before starting the assembly I decided to paint the small parts on the sprues.

More progress on the 109. I have glued the fuselage halves together and added the cockpit and instrument panel from below. I also filled the hatches that weren't correct for the 109F as per Hasegawa's instructions.

Another thing I'll start doing is to fill and sand gaps. This is because the editor of Modelling Madness, the review page where I send my model reviews, told me he wouldn't upload my articles unless I started filling seams on my planes.

Here you can see the wings painted and with the radiator flaps glued. Test fit of the main wing shows a very tight fit. I'll sand the front and rear areas of it to make the wing fit.

After some days off the bench due to a university trip to Mar del Plata, I was able to paint the 109. Colours used were Revell Aqua Africa Brown, Light Blue, Yellow and White.

Just saw your build thread. I’m loving your progress. I have that same kit in the stash.

I’m looking forward to seeing how you finish this one. Looks great so far.

More progress has been done. I added the sand filter, exhausta and exhausts shields to the aircraft. The instructions indicated the sand filter should be painted in camouflage colour, but I liked the steel one more.

Decals came from three sources: Academy for the numbers, swastikas, kill markings and JG27 shields, Xtradecals for the upper and lower crosses, and Hobby Boss for the fuselage crosses.
