This is looking superb.  I'm yet to attempt spraying on roundels etc, but have had a go at an American star on a tank that I made a compete hash of, so I can't pass judgement!

A fine result Alistair.

I've been in that position  more than once (once should really be enough!) and I know how annoying it can be.

She's looking superb.

Q

Thanks Q,

Yup once should be enough but I keep on doing it.

Thanks very much.

It's very much a learning process for me and I haven't quite found a method that works for me but I'll keep going until I get it.

  • 2 weeks later...

The fuselage after a Flory Dark Dirt Wash and some oil dot filtering.

I managed to get all this done without knocking any of the delicate PE bits around the tail off, so, once I get the Torpedo Aiming bits and the wing to fuselage struts painted up I'll get the centre top wing piece glued on and give this all a matt coat.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

Ooooooo now that's looking lovely Alistair,  great work. Not too far to go now.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I should be able to start putting the sub-assemblies together fairly soon and see how that looks.

After the fuselage to wing root struts were painted, lightly weathered and fitted, I got a flat coat sprayed and with the help of the hairdryer nicely dried off.

The centre top wing was fitted and the torpedo aiming bars.

While I was at it I fitted the engine and cowling. Seems like an age since I built and painted that.

Windscreen, fuselage and underside masks removed.

I'll fit the PE struts from the center to the fuselage tomorrow along with the film for the bottom window and the side radiator?

Thanks for looking,

Alistair,

Lovely job on the filter which adds a subtle depth, looking super under a flat coat!

Thanks Roger,

I must admit I think she's looking quite good now.

I just need to get moving on the PE rigging done on the wings as well and I can start putting her all together finally.

Alistair

Ooooooo very nice Alistair looks fantastic,  that is a big mojo boosting step getting all those bits added.  Starting to really come together well now.

Great work

Chris

Thanks Chris,

It's such a big beast that finally getting so much together feels really positive.

Not really that much to do now.

The PE rigging, the control lines, arrestor hook, landing gear and some of the small bits for the cockpit sides.

Oh and the leather covers on the pilots cockpit edges.

Maybe more than I thought.

Alistair

Looking absolutely brilliant, Ali.  This one is some of your very best work, for sure.

Thanks so much Mark,

I'm quite chuffed and surprised at the results so far.

Maybe taking a bit more time is something I should do more often.

Alistair

This is a really lovely model.

Overcoming a few hiccups, you are 100% on top of the process at this point, and it shows👍

Thanks very much WP,

That is an extremely kind euphemism for running around like a headless chicken and just winging it.

A little progress today as I didn't have a lot of time after I was briefed on todays shopping trip.

I hate going shopping on a Saturday but needs must.

The first of the rigging was fitted along with the radiator thingy.

I also got the torpedo fitted to the carrier.

Tomorrow I will fit this stuff as control wires for the rudder and elevators.

And as I have started the rigging these will be in use.

Looking good with the rigging in place! I'll warrant also easier than 1:72,

Roger

Thanks Roger,

And yes it was a sight easier, they just slotted in.

I'm hoping the rest are as simple but I've just given that the kiss of death.

Cheers,

Alistair
