All in good time Ali, I can't do any modelling for a few weeks now. We'll come back refreshed and at our best I am sure.

Looking  great Alistair, really smart.  Just put a Colourcoats order in for more paint and thinners.  Some maritime colours for a couple of ship projects.

Great Jo  on the roundels

Chris

Thanks Chris,

Funnily enough I put an order in as well.

I should have done it in the first place.

Either that or I'll spend hours staring at it trying to plan out the next steps and overthinking it. :D

Great recovery on the roundels, they look the biz now.  Your Swordfish is looking great overall, looking forward to seeing it come together.

Thanks so much Mark.

I gave the roundels a second pass yesterday and now just need to fix the slight blemishes on the outside.

Cheers,

Alistair

I should never have been disloyal to Colourcoats :sorry: and will be using them in future for this sort of thing.

Glad to see the roundels looking presentable now.

Heart in the mouth moment for a while, and that was just me 😉

Thanks Adrian,

First pass with the brushy thing.

There's still a little to do but I think I might just get away with it.

Once there's some weathering and a matt coat on that will blend it all in.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Great save on the roundels Alistair! I do wonder whether a 'composite' solution of Oramask and liquid mask might help? Punch through the mask so it can sit flush then patch over the hole with liquid mask? Just spitballing but you got the right outcome in the end - well done that man!

It certainly was. I still need to put some finishing paint around the outside of the roundel but it'll look ok from a foot away. :D

Thanks Roger,

I had positioned the masks to minimise the lumps and bumps covered and had sliced with a scalpel away from the edge to get it to burnish down but it wouldn't stay down.

I'd give it a go with Tamiya masking sheet and Maskol next time .

If I have a bumpy subject that's what I'll try.

The MRP and the paint reaction may have been part of this as well.

Alistair

The final pass on the roundels has been done, I think.

The surface texture is a bit rough but I'm hoping that the final clears will blend everything in.

That will need to dry and then I can fix the overspray that I've only just noticed.

My excuse is that today is the first day that I've had proper daylight to inspect it.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Hate when that happens!

Shooting the paint directly at the mask rather than at angle will help avoid that kind of overspray, plus if done with lower pressure and light coats, also prevents bleed.  I know you know that, just adding here in case others might find the info useful.

Oh damn !!

I've been caught once in that game...

From that day on, I wrap the entire kit in kitchen plastic film...

Now I admit that a 1/32 Stringbag will need a lot of plastic film....

I'm sure that you'll find a way to rectify it...

Sincerely.

Thanks CC,

Again my own stupidity and nothing that can't be cured with some masking and a 02.mm needle at low pressure. :D

Oh mate, what a shame Alistair,  although I am sure you'll easily sort out.  Overall it looks lovely in front of the miniature bread bin 😉

Great work

Chris

I have know idea how it happened as I was shooting at about 8PSI with the needle lock right down.

Are you sure it's the miniature bin though. :wicked:

I thought you had a set of miniature breadbins in different scales? :D

Nice work on the Swordfish mate, it's coming together B)

.....or......you could just weather it REALLY HEAVILY, and it might just disappear   🤞

If only that would be wonderful.

I sometimes envy armour builders as they can slap some mud on and cover it up. ;)

A day spent masking off respraying and repeat to get rid of the overspray.

Worth it though.

Some other markings applied.

There is a wee touch up still needed on the Port Roundel, but I'll get on with that tomorrow.

Then a clear coat and some light weathering.

Thanks for looking,

Looking good Alistair - we've all clearly been caught by the overspray problem!

Thanks Roger,

A mix of overconfidence and pure rank stupidity.

It wasn't a difficult fix just time consuming.

I'm glad it's out of the way now.

Cheers,

Alistair

It looks good to me Ali, I never look at other people's models with a critical eye. All I can see here is a lovely Swordfish taking shape. I often think we fuss too much over getting perfect roundels. They were often touched up by hand and less than perfect on wartime aircraft. Probably much more so on carrier based aircraft. Possibly a can of worms just got opened!

Thanks Richie,

I am with you on the roundel there would be touch ups due to damage on the real thing and I'm sure they were less than perfect.

I'm enjoying this build but as always will always be my worst critic.

Once this one is finally finished the only folks that will see it wouldn't know a Swordfish from a Phantom.

I'm doing this because I enjoy the process, love the interaction with the community here as it is so helpful and supportive.

Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement.

Cheers,

Alistair
