I wasn't happy with the Dark Slate Grey so a highly thinned mix was misted over a couple of times.

Then the centre top part got some paint.

I'll try to get some Dark Sea Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey done tomorrow.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Wow, those shots really give the illusion of tightly stretched and doped fabric over wooden ribs, instead of styrene plastic. Terrific work on the paint, and a great model kit too 👍

Thanks very much.

It came out better than I expected.

Another happy accident.

Good to see that I am not the only fool that paints the wrong sides of things Alistair.

She is looking great my friend.

Keep up the magnificent work.

Stay safe.

Simon.

Thanks Simon,

As I said earlier it's not as if the location holes for the struts were difficult to see.

I really am that idiot.

Night shift over, so, I have some time to get paint flung about.

Dark Sea Grey for the lower wings and after a drop of Sky Grey the ribs were lightened.

a3qbqqT.jpg

Extra Dark Sea Grey for the Upper wings with the Sky Grey lightening.

Then just to make sue I've got the masking right.

Next I'll need to paint in the walkway lines as Trumpeter have made a mistake and supplied it as PE.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

  • 4 weeks later...

Well, I finally made some more progress with this one.

I'd intended to fix the bits I'd painted wrongly on the struts, get the walkway lines sprayed and get some paint on the fuselage.

Unfortunately, the temperature in the garage was -5C today so I fixed the struts and then got out before hypothermia set in.

I then spent a lovely couple of hours fitting the wings together as various coats of paint had caused fit issues with the struts.

Anyway, enough bleating and excuses on with the pics.

A word of warning to @bigbadbadge. Chris this is the full size bread bin not the miniature. :wicked:.

Thanks for looking.

There will be more progress when I dig the portable gas heater out from storage and get the garage warmed up a bit when I'm working.

Cheers,

Alistair

Ooooooo good to see this one on the go Alistair  certainly is an impressive wing span.  Looks good Alistair, gonna be a big beastie, are you rigging them before attaching them or are you leaving it attached.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

They'll be rigged before attaching them.

I think it will be easier to manipulate the wings if they are not attached.

Alistair,

Good to see the full size bread bin back, and the wings are looking superb. Look forward to the rigging - what is your weapon of choice for this task?

Thanks Roger,

I'll be using the PE rigging from the kit itself.

It is the stainless steel variety though so I'm trying to find some way of getting it off the sprue easily.

It's incredibly tough. So, I'm trying to find a method and tool to do it easily.

Nice to see this one back on the bench, but that's some serious dedication if it involves no heating in this weather. I missed the EDSG state and the shading looks spot on. Nice to see it matches up, I'd give it 50/50 that I find I got the position right but the colours flipped. Good luck with the etch, I struggle with the stainless too, so will gladly learn from whatever you find works.

Thanks Andy,

I was out shopping in Falkirk and had to take the boy into Warhammer for some paints.

While I was there i thought I'll check the Citadel Nippers and see how thin they are.

On examining they were too thick but the thought struck me at that point, if I used a cutting disc in either my Trumpeter Drill or the Dremel that might work.

I've just tested the theory and it works with a nice clean cut.

The case is solv-ed and a certain French Chief Inspector might say. :penguin:

A little more done. Roundels painted up on the top wings.

GQWIZc2.jpg

There were a few touch ups needed as the oramask didn't want to play nicely with the ribbing but it should all blend in with some weathering.

Next I'll give it a flat coat and a light wash followed by some oil work.

After that I can get the rigging in place.

In other news,

These arrived yesterday.

The kit is going away under the tree after wrapping. Humbug! :angrysoapbox.sml: but I'm desperate to get stuck in to the book.

Thanks for looking,

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I've had a fondle. Just to check that there's no shorts shots etc.

It looks to be something else.
