SimonL
I present my first Sherman in 1:35 scale. It’s the RFM kit of the Firefly Vc built straight out of the box with the markings of the 2nd Armoured Battalion, Grenadier Guards, 5 Guards Armoured Brigade in the Netherlands, September 1944 (so I assume involved with Market Garden). I got the hankering to build a larger scale Firefly after reading Brothers in Arms by James Holland over Christmas. Build thread can be found here: A bit fiddly in places, but all in all a very satisfying build. Brush painted with Vallejo acrylic for the main colour, details in Tamiya acrylics and finished with various Vallejo washes. Hope I did it justice. 42

The star was a real worry at first - looked far too “bright”!

Muchmirth
I have brothers in arms on the shelf waiting to be read. Looks like I might also get a hankering to do a firefly after this as well. You’ve done a terrific job on this build with subtle weathering. Top job!

Jasper dog
Very nice, everything ties in nicely, really captured the look of a used but not abused Firefly, great work all round! Might have to get one.... Cheers Darryl

FrancisGL
HI Simon, A nice result in your first AFV at 1/35, I imagine you will have noticed a difference with respect to the smaller scales, both positive and negative aspects....lol Personally, if there is no problem of space, I prefer the largest scale, with the exception of 1/16 which, due to price and space, is too much... Cheers and TC Francis.👍
SimonL
Thanks @FrancisGL not quite my first AFV in 1:35, but my first Sherman 🙂 but yes, very much noted the differences. Generally it’s subject that attracts me, but there are no doubt pros and cons in the choice of scale. In many ways 1:48 scale is the “sweet spot”, but the range is limited if you have a preference for British or Commonwealth subjects (like I do). I do like 1:35 scale - but storage/display space is becoming an issue! Edited August 28, 2022 by SimonL
diablo rsv
Very nicely done Simon, The washes give it an authentic grubby look. I'm still pondering how I'm going to break up the monotone paint on mine. Wayne

Sergas
Really nice Firefly 👍 I don't know what it is but i have a thing for British armor. I have the very same kit in my stash and planning on building it in the near future and i will for sure take a look at your build thread. cheers David
