New GB

I wasn't sure I was going to post this build. I started slapping the kit together a week ago (or thereabouts) and started making errors at almost the same time.

I nearly canned it but carried on and it looks like it might turn out okay(ish)

Anyway, the sprue shots are available elsehwere, so here's a pic of the box contents just to show it wasn't started

New GB

I'm planning to do the Swiss scheme below

New GB

This will be OOB since that's what I do.

There aren't many in-progress pics 'till now. I thought I had taken more, but obviously not.

Cockpit was assembled, painted and decorated. Then the fuselage halves were stuck together

Major mistake was not attaching the stabilisers before that step.

Snipped them in half then stuck'em in

filler was applied to the nasty gaps

Work in progress

Since not all of the armament and other underside stores will be attached, I filled in the holes

Work in progress

This is where I got to before today

More soon(ish)

Today's work was mainly masking the canopy

Work in progress

Attaching it to the fuselage

Work in progress

Final sanding of the filler and a blast of primer.

That's being left to cure.

I should get the first layer of paint on tomorrow morning

Off now to watch Godzilla on the tellybox :dinosaur:

I am also building one of these. There is an issue with the fin were it meets the fuselage. I shopped off a piece from a number tap from the sprue, and glued it to the end the front of the fin and then sanded it to blend the front of the fin into the fuselage instead of it ending abruptly.

I fear Godzilla will slow you down?

OT: Like your building jig

It did a bit, but I'm back working now. I finally got the lighter grey sprayed today (no pics though)

The jig is a 3D printed tool from ZEP which I bought from Scalemodelshop. As far as I can tell, they are either a part of, or distributed by, one of the Spanish paint giants

Thanks, advice has been taken and a similar fix deployed

t this rate she will be in the gallery by next weekend!

It's always possible, but I now have to mask up for the (not much) darker grey

I spent the day masking for the dark(er) grey

Amybe it would have been easier to spray the darker grey, then mask before spraying the lighter shade.

Then I attacked it with the airbrush and mr color C308 (or is it C307 😕 Whichever one I didn't use last time). I really like these paints, just wish they didn't stink quite so much

Can you see the difference? (no, neither can I)

I'll let that dry off a bit then unmask

There isn't a great deal of difference between the two colours

Thanks. From what I've seen in pictures online, they are not miles apart.

The initial test spray son kitchen towel shows enough difference to be noticeable but only just.

I will remove the masking shortly

Masking has been removed

Good enough :phew:

The difference is a bit more obvious in the flesh as it were, but some of the demarcation is somewhat vague in places.

It'll do

Remaining tasks

Burnt Iron/Jet exhaust on the rear

Black on the front

Clear coat

Decals

Clear coat

Fix undercarriage and weapons

Repair pitot (mustn't forget that) I'm leaving it till last otherwise it will just end up broken again

It's looking good. Having already snapped the pitot on mine before I've even got the fuselage halves together (Italeri moulded it as part of the upper half), I'll be replacing mine with some Albion Alloys slide fit tube.

Thanks guys

I have another in the stash as I want to do the version on the cover. I may need to add 2 more and do all 4 variants from the box

It's a cheap enough kit to consider that

Sounds like a good plan.

I've masked for the remaining paintwork

Thursday

This was a lot simpler

I can cover one end with a small ziploc while the other end is being sprayed then swap it over

The actual painting won't happen until tomorrow.

As promised, I started applying the decals earlier this afternoon

F5

Didn't really have much trouble with them. They separated from the backing really quickly

Everyhing stuck on and several coats of Micro Set/Sol later

F5

They were still drying when that pic was taken

I've stuck on the landing gear and rockets

F5

I was a little worried it would ba a tail-sitter since I didn't add any weight to the nose, but it seems fine

I still need to seal everything in with a flat coat then remove the canopy masks

More soon(ish)
