Now I have the 1/48 scale Javelin I am in a position to modify and re-size my 1/72 parts to fit.  I am wondering if that might be something modellers might be interested in?

Just started surgery on my old 1/72 Airfix Javelin to test fit the new @TeeELL parts (and my razor saw skills). Offering up the new rear fuselage to the kit plastic shows a perfect dry fit and wow! does that make the kit look 100% better. I keep gazing at it in wonder... 🤩  Much excitement at the prospect of a decent 1/72 dragmaster. Such a shame the Airfix of the day could not get this correct when they modified the Heller original kit.  I think I've decided now to restrict myself to have only the airbrakes deployed open on this one and not have the flaps down as well - it looks kinda silly. I'm going to use the flaps on the Frog Javelin I'm building in parallel. Lots of precise holes to cut in the wings but I plan to use a new method (for me!) using polyester thread as a saw.

I was contemplating the markings and finer points of detail when I came across the @Antti_K build thread of the 1/48 Airfix Javelin from a few years ago. A total masterclass on the subject - "Borneo Escort - 60 Squadron Javelin FAW.9R".  Inspirational stuff. And no excuse to get things wrong with the finish.

Rich, that's a brilliant tip on cutting out hatches and doors on plastic kits.

Thanks! Came from Guillem Roca of Rocast Models who makes some incredible detail stuff and ground support equipment mainly for 1/144 airliners. I have an ambition for a small airport diorama project; opening up the entrances and cargo holds on a Zvezda 1/144 scale B787-9 (perhaps even putting LED lighting in). Like the great stuff @TeeELL has produced, 3D design/printing seems to be opening-up a new dimension to the hobby (sorry too many puns... ).

Don't know if Guillem has an account here on BM, but his website is https://www.rocastmodels.com is well worth a look to check out his range and some highly detailed modelling! Anyway back to 1/72 Javelins for now.

Rich, I am so relieved that my fuselage plug is as good as I hoped it would be!  I all but lost count on the ‘rejects’ I printed.  I hope the flaps fit the Frog kit.

Hello sir,

I'd be interested in 1x pack2  and 7 . What would the total price be for France please?

Best regards

The parts come £7,  how would you like the items posted?  I normally use the cheapest option which has been OK for all my overseas packages.  The cheapest option on postage plus packing is £7 so a total of £14.  I can accept PayPal.  Please PM me.

My box of bits arrived safely today, very well packaged and look absolutely superb!!

Looking forward to giving them a try once I've braved the cold of the attic to find my javelin kit.

Would definately recommend and fingers crossed for the cockpit as well.

The stuff I had ordered from Tony showed up a few days ago, basic post from the UK to NZ was fine. I'm bloody impressed at the detail on the components, doing that justice will be the hard part from my point of view. ;)

It has been a great relief to me that all the Javelin parts I’ve sent out have safely reached their expected recipients.  One set took nearly a month longer than expected!

They're worth the wait!     :)

Yes, indeed they are. Mine finally arrived on December 23, a nice early Xmas present. I suspect the U.S. Postal Service for the delay, as I am still waiting on a item ordered from Amazon on November 26 and which has been apparently sitting at USPS’s Dallas Network Distribution  Center since December 4. That Center is exactly 17 miles from my house as the crow flies!

So, the big question is:  Who is going to produce the first example of the model incorporating the resin parts?   I am thinking that I should have a go myself, although I need to consider whether I can, in fact, create a better cockpit tub.

This is just an ‘aside’ as it doesn’t refer to 3D printed parts - I am currently waiting for the rubber to set on some replacement ‘rear ends’ for the F(AW) 7 and the earlier ‘pen nib’ versions.  It will be a little while before I can make my first cast resin impression though.   The rubber is being cured whilst under 4 bar pressure to minimise any air bubbles.  My casts will also be created in the same conditions.

I did my first cast yesterday but clearly didn’t mix the resin thoroughly enough, I set a second cast with very thoroughly mixed resin, which I shall look at today.  On both occasions the resin was cured whilst pressurised to 4 Bar.

as an aside, does any one have a ‘Maintrack 72-17 resin conversion’ they would consider lending me?  In return for the loan your resin set would be posted back with a set of my fuselage corrections for a Javelin F(AW)8/9 comprising the 3D printed rear fuselage, jet-pipes/reheat nozzles, turbine faces, seamless intake trunking and compressor faces.

Airfix is announcing a New Tool 1/72 Javelin, initially offered as a FAW9 a separate forward fuselage section means a FAW8 will appear in due course.  Looks like they have whipped the carpet from under me :(  !

As good as this MIGHT be, I’m sure the details won’t be as good as yours.

That will be a right beggar for you after your hard work, nevertheless, I'll be sticking with your stuff & the original Airfix kit, far better for the Scot that dwells within. :D

I would also like to thank you for your time and effort if that is the case. I would still build the old one with the parts you have created..

If they have done the FAW9, then still plenty of T.3s around where most of the other parts will benefit, I actually think the earlier marks look nicer.

BTW, I have Maintrack 72-16, for the FAW4

Not this year Tony.

You're still the go-to man for Javelin bits.

Wow - just read from start to finish - the Javelin is one of my favourite aeroplanes.

Cheeky Q - did you put your designs up on Cults, or similar, for purchase? 🙂

I'd love to do a Javelin in 1:32 one day - FDM printed main airframe, and resin printed details...

Iain
