Mattlow Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Hi all Just took delivery of a new Anycubic Photon Mono 4K. I've noticed that the FEP film has some small marks on it, maybe 3-4mm x 1mm they're just like small grazes. Are they likely to affect printing quality? I had assumed that the FEP would have to be 100% blemish free over the exposure area... but maybe not? I will try to get a photo, but they're only visible with the light hitting at the right angle. Here IMG_1836 by Matt Low, on Flickr Cheers Matt
bootneck Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Hi Matt, have you checked if the FEP has a removable safety film covering it? Hopefully it has and those marks will be removed with it. cheers, Mike 1 1
Stu_davros Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 If this is is the film installed in the tank supplied then the film will have been removed. The marks are unlikely to have an effect on the printing. As you use the printer more the film will become marked and slightly hazy, with the occasional dink in the surface but it's all ok. The only problem will be if the tank leaks from some damage to the film, then it will have to be replaced. 1

Dunno about Anycubic but Elegoo supply their tanks installed with FEP and leave a layer of protective film on the bottom side 1
Mattlow Posted August 10, 2022 Author Posted August 10, 2022 Thank you all.. Yes, this is installed in the resin vat and is Anycubic's latest 'pre-fitted' version where the FEP is fitted in a glued together frame. No sign of any protective film either side. I am relieved to hear the marks aren't an issue. No printing yet as I am working out a R_E_R_F file to test out the exposure settings. Again, many thanks for your input. Matt 1
Iceman 29 Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 This is quite normal, it can be that good, until the hole in the film FEP. It doesn't affect the performance at all. The only problematic thing is if you need a super flat face on your part. A small bump on the wire can create a small defect on that surface. Do not forget to put the protective film on the LCD screen. Even if there are some bubbles, it is not very important. The screens are expensive. 1
munnst Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Resurrecting this thread to ask the following. Will small dents in the FEP degrade print quality significantly?
