Konrad
About plane: Bu 181 Bestmann - training and liaison aircraft flown in Germany in 1939. During the war it was produced in Germany (Bucker Bu 181) and after the war mainly in Czechoslovakia (Zlin Z-181). About object: SP-ASI (s/n 131B) was used in 1959-1962 by the Central Sanitary Aviation Team as a dispatch aircraft operating from the Warsaw-Goclaw airport. It is most likely ex. SP-ASL (s/n 131) refurbished by the District Aviation Workshops in Poznań around 1950 and used initially by the Silesian Aeroclub (hence the ASL registration) and later by the Warsaw Aeroclub. About kit & model: The model is fairly straightforward, the fit of the parts (after removing the overfills) is decent. The glazing fits very well. The presented model is made almost straight from the box - only small wire elements were added (handles on the fuselage or wires at the wheels). The decals are based on a photo from the Civil Aircraft Register. 32

Spitfire31
What a delightful model – sheer poetry! The Bestmann was an innovative trainer design by Bücker's Swedish chief designer Anders Johan (A J) Andersson, who had worked with Clas Clemens Bücker in Sweden before the war. He also designed the successful Bü 131 Jungmann and the aerobatic Bü 133 Jungmeister. The Bü 181 was innovative in that it introduced the side-by-side student/instructor layout in an enclosed cockpit. 120 Bü 181s were license built in Sweden for the Swedish Air Force and used as a trainer with the appellation SK 25. After having moved back to Sweden, being employed by Saab, A J Andersson designed the Saab Type 91 Safir, an all-metal trainer (SK 50) and civil transport a/c with a similar layout to the Bü 181. Andersson's last purely military design was the twin engined Saab B 18/S 18 bomber/recce aircraft, which had a family resemblance to German bombers such as the Ju 88 and the Dornier 17. Sorry for the slightly OT rant. A J would have loved your model, Konrad! Kind regards, Joachim
