Homebee
Sprues & test build Source: https://www.modelarovo.cz/heinkel-he-162-salamander-1-72-azmodel Quote After the initial info about the preparation of this model we bring you some photos from the test build. The kit is made with short-run technology in two smaller frames of medium grey, easy to work plastic. The photos show the fine negative detail of the wing and fuselage, the interior and landing gear shafts are very detailed. In the transparent parts we find a clean and clear one-piece cockpit overlay and sight. The construction itself is simple , without major problems. We enjoy a lot of parts fitting thanks to the chosen mould making technology, but it is a common thing in these models. Due to the multiversion versatility of the kit I recommend to dry fit the parts beforehand and remove any minor imperfections. For me it all fit very well, minor fitting was applied to the fuselage and wing joints. The kit contains parts for He 162 A-1/2, He 162 A-9, He 162C and He 162D versions, so „Luftwaffe 46“ builders will really enjoy this kit. As an added bonus, the parts also include missile racks and gun pods. The first four boxed versions , which are decorated with boxarts by our court painter Carlos Alonso, will be distributed to shops in the this month. You can get the kit at all good dealers and also on our E-shop. And now we will finish the preparation of production of two-seat versions and aircraft with pulsejet engines. Info will be here on Modeler’s in due course. Also, many thanks this way for the large number of your emails with suggestions on what all is „absolutely“ needed for the popular „Luftwaffe 46“ category of kits. Hang in there, we are already preparing more V.P. Edited September 2, 2022 by Homebee
Mu17
I don't know if this was a mistake by the builder but the dihedral angle of the V-tail is too shallow. It lies too flat by a significant amount. Easily corrected .NOTE TO AZ Model Good that you will be producing the He162S two seater. Strangely Heinkel called the powered two seat seater the He162S and also called the training glider He162S. However, I have an original RLM Lieferplan/production plan, that shows in Luftwaffe called the powered two seater the He162 A-3 and only the glider would be called the He162S. I hope this reaches you in time for he box art. Paul
Robert
@Mu17 what angle should the V tail be please. Also good to see all versions in one box. Regards Robert
Mu17
Robert, on the Heinkel drawings of both the forward sweep and rear sweep variants, the angle of the V tail can be seen marked as 45 degrees. To clarify - that is measured in front view, from the horizontal to the centreline of the tailplane. As a straight line is 190 degrees, it follows that the angle between the two tailplanes is 90 degrees - again, to their centrelines in front view. You can see that the test build is way too shallow, which is odd as the box art is too steep and the colour scheme plan and side views look about right. Although dozens of books and articles refer to the He162 B and C and D, there are no original documents that use those designations. I shall be interested to see what AZ make of the two seat He162 A-3 as no one has ever kitted this variant. Although the original drawing for the two seater survives, its clear that the instructors position not only has a truly dreadful view but its pretty tight trying to fit him in. Several single seaters were fitted with extended fuselages and this would have given more space, so its likely (but speculative) that this would have been incorporated in the two seater. No drawings exist of the extension and it is even unclear whether it was 450mm or more likely 200mm. Note the side of the instructors canopy would have been bulged sideways but its dubious how much help that would have been. Paul

Mu17
He162 two seaters- sigh. I genuinely have no problem with 'What-ifs' - so long as they are labelled as such. There are no original drawings of an He162 S-2 The model seems to be based on the proposition that the forward fuselage was extended, to move the instructor forward, with a better field of view. Although there is a small amount of evidence to suggest this was considered, the destabilising effect of a longer nose might not have been viable. The Only powered two seater was the He162 A-3 which as far as we know, resembled the known original drawing with the poor instructor tucked beneath the engine intake. The forward swept, two seat, He162 D-9 is pure fantasy. You pays yer money and makes yer choice but for me there are enough interesting Lift 46 designs without resorting to inventing them, Sadly an opportunity missed and we still have no accurate powered A-3 two seater, nor for that matter an accurate He162S two seat glider (the A+V resin is simply wrong) Paul
TEXANTOMCAT
I imagine they’re all coming- hats off to them for getting the most out of a series of sprues- AZ’s decals have improved recently too as well as their box art- now if they could only just improve fit and moulding a bit…
Mu17
The reality is that AZ's fantasy S-2 looks significantly different to the single seater. In practical terms the 'real' A-3 two seater would have used the single seat canopy with a simple flat wrap clear panel over the instructor and that would have been cheaper and easier to produce as a model.
