Mark
Hi all, I’m just about to add to my collection of Eduard 1/48 Spitfires with the purchase of their recent Mk.Vc kit. But will this kit allow the earlier Mk.Ia wings to be fitted to replicate a Mk.Va? Is it that simple a conversion? If this is a stupid question, then I’m just asking for a friend…

If this is a stupid question, then I’m just asking for a friend… Start with a late mk.Ia, and add the circular oil cooler from a Mk.V. The Mk.I/II/V fuselage are essentially the same externally. There maybe some other details I have forgotten, Va's are fairly rare, so you might want to check on a photo what kind of windscreen. was fitted, and the prop type, @gingerbob @Peter Roberts @lasermonkey HTH 1
gingerbob
I think the Mk.IIa kit has everything the Va would require, though I'd have to check to be certain. Eduard's Mk.I kits only have the early manual gear pump. 1 1
Mark
I wondered how long it would take you to reply! But thanks Troy! Without trying a dry fit, do you know if the Eduard Mk.I and Mk.V kits would likely have interchangeable wings? 18 minutes ago, gingerbob said: I think the Mk.IIa kit has everything the Va would require, though I'd have to check to be certain. They probably do, but since what you want is a A wing, and the fuselage of a late mk.I or Mk.II is externally the same* as Mk.V, just use the IIa kit. Remember the Eduard site has sprue shots https://www.eduard.com/eduard/plastic-kits/profipack/aircraft/1-48/spitfire-mk-iia-1-48.html kit has wing set to take oil cooler, and has circular oil cooler also has both fabric and metal ailerons. as Vs often had metal ailerons HTH

wellsprop
The undercarriage rake is greater on a Vc than a Va too.

Good pick up - and I suspect the wheel well will be different too. Hopefully these will be covered off with the use of an ‘a’ wing in place of the ‘c’ wing, but a consideration if modifying the ’c’ wing.
