Lightningboy at RIAT

Recommended Posts

An epic weekend of photographic enjoyment at RIAT.

Hundreds processed & thousands left to go through. Enough to keep me entertained till Christmas! 🤣

Three days gone in a flash, the anticlimax & withdrawal symptoms of aviation overload on return to normal life the day after.

Now to book for the next one!

Very nice, Martin. I particularly like the Sweish historic trio. You have got the blur just right. Seeing a photo of the Danish MFIs is good as I only got a glimpse of them as they took off from about half way along RWY 09 ;). I remember them from the 1980s and 1990s :).  And you got the prop blur just right on the Austrian Herc :). Nice!

I am suffering from eyestrain going through all my pics! ( I couldnt wait till christmas) Nice ones there. I think that was my last RIAT. (nothing ominous, just feeling I had enough of it)

A terrific and nicely captured set of images that well captures the excellent variety of aircraft at RIAT 2022, which was one of the best that I can remember in recent years.  The lovely blue skies also helped!

Thanks for sharing.

A great set of pictures Martin.

If you took that pic of the French PC-21 on Saturday then I would have been within feet of you.

Oh crikey! Yep Saturday afternoon! I walked along that metal fence taking pics of the fighter jets then hung around to see the Sokol take off & come back. Love those little helicopters that remind me of the Mil Mi-2.

Like the Britmodeller plans to meet at Telford we should have a Britmodeller meet up at RIAT! I'll definitely be booking up again for next year. The main draw is the aircraft & those I've never seen before, but what also makes it is meeting up with old mates & regular RIAT goers. Thanks mate!

Thanks Mark, much appreciated. It was definitely fantastic to be back after two years. I have enjoyed every RIAT since 2014 & each show has had its highlights. But this year theres been a number of plus points. The Black Eagles, Beluga, Viggen twin seater, the PZL Sokol, A-4 Skyhawk.... & yes plenty of blue skies! Lucky we didn't have the intense heat of that Tuesday though.

Cheers

Martin

I agree, mate. Enjoying something like Fairford with mates and/or family is the best. You can share the experience on the day and for many years after. I went on Monday with friends I have had since school in the 1970s and one from the 1980s. We all having a spotting background. Since then we have always kept close, travelled and attended events together. :)

As mentioned above the Golden Eagles with the Lancaster is a cracker. I also really like the composition of the F16s too. I imagine there will be a lot of photographers less than impressed by the construction work on the eastern end!

Thats settled for next year then!

I liked the time I spent at the green end on the fence, got the best pictures I took of the whole show from there, not that they're brilliant.

I was up the eastern end for the majority of the time. It made for an interesting background!

It certainly sounds like a plan! What we all need to do is to lobby the IAT to get a good theme for the event. To be honest I wasn't struck by the training one. For 2024 it will be the 70th anniversary of the F-104 first flight! Maybe the Starfighters team could attend and LN-STF ;).

Yes, I realise that now :(. Some careful cropping can eliminate most of that :)

Really nice pictures Martin.

Great to see some of 'our' birds showed the flag on this occasion :)

Cheers

Many thanks Markus, was fantastic to see a couple of your Eurofighters. Those two & the Herc together put on a brilliant display.

Cheers

Hi Lightning boy, great photos- thanks for posting,  they are all good bit I particularly like the Swedish shots and the 3 F16s with the snake head in the background. The Hercules is excellent, do you have any more shots of it?🙂
