Dansk
Thanks guys. Not looking forward to the decals then @trickyrich 🙄 Ok since last update I've stuck with it and filled, sanded, scribed and repeat until I'm happy and added some bits and pieces, like some pylons etc And now finally I've gone on to priming ...and painting. It's been so long since I've been at paint stage with a model but it's nice to be back here! I went for a 'black basing' method and laid down black primer then mottled the heavily thinned paint on top (ak real color fs36118 thinned with ak's house thinner and it goes down just beautifully) I started on the underside, as i'm out of practice 🙈 it's getting there slowly looks like an aeroplane now 😊 these beautiful ladies are in production too...

Thank you 👍 I think I might actually be able to get this done in time if all goes well. 🤗 I have been attempting to reinstate lost raised panel lines on the drop tanks with mr surfacer the airbrush decided to spit as i was tidying up the underside so I've had to sort that now the paint colour looks so light on all shots but in reality its near petrol blue? 🤷♂️ eduard bombs have had some pe attached and been primed i'm thinking of installing the 'clasps' after paint or its too hard to paint and decal. and i tried foil tape on the oleo piston. seems to work well rather than painting it.
PattheCat
Looking great Paul. Your paint layers technique makes it look like the real part. I shall remember how you reinstated raised panel lines, a very useful tip. Well done.

Thanks Pat, although the reinstating panel lines is an experiment and its a bit iffy looking so far - so dont trust me I don't know what I'm doing 🙂 on the main assembly I've done a few touch ups and then applied a humbrol gloss coat to protect it, isnt it funny how a gloss coat allows the camera to pick up the colour more correctly?! so weird

Johnson
That’s looking great Paul. You’re certainly doing the weathering on the real plane justice. Excellent painting.
Dansk
Thanks Charlie & Rich, since the last update I've managed a few bits gear has been installed the bombs are painted in the actual background, in the metaphoric background I have been painting the sidewinder and sparrow the bare metal parts have been masked, primed and given an AK xtreme gloss black base. resin nozzles have been constructed, man those control arm things are small and fiddly 🤪 they got a matt black priming and also a gloss ak base I cheated a bit and have used the internals from the kit as you cant see inside the nozzles anyway we have a family vacation abroad this coming week so i wont be able to get back to the bench for a while so it probbaly wont reach the gallery in time unless an extension comes into play on this gb. 😣
trickyrich
Eeeeeeek!!! That's probably why I went for those 3D printed ones......I love working with resin....but even I have limits! Great work on them
DaveJL
Looks good Paul! You have the patience of a saint to fit all those resin arms! I'm either too lazy (likely) or not patient enough (also likely) to persevere so like @trickyrich, I went for the all in one 3D jobs Just noticed something, maybe not too late to sort; there's two small bumps just aft of the nose cone, one upper, one lower. These were only present on the upgraded C models, whereas on the E model they are absent. The bumps form part of the counter measures set up, with the E model having the forward bits fitted flush to the fuselage. They're not very well illustrated in the instructions and can't remember if GWH show that they're to be chopped off!
Dansk
sorry dave i fear i've rather gone too far now. thx for the info though mate much appreciated. 🙏 yeps. next time its 3d cans, but they were out of stock this time. 🙄 since last time i've done a lot. i'm approaching an end i can feel. metal work was painted with ak xtreme metals the airframe, weapons and it's externals where decalled glossed and panel line washed... (humbrol clear, tamiya black panel wash, mig neutral wash, removed with ipa (not beer) then protected with gloss.. (some idiot has knocked off the protruding aerial on the starboard vertical stab top) and a spot of mucking about with funky glass effects

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I'm really sorry, maybe it's been too much jacuzzi time, but I wont be able to bring this lady over the finish line by sunday. I'm travelling to the uk to go to telford and i've only just started the oil work this evening so it's a little way from completion right now. however i will keep updating the thread after weekend when back home so i hope you tune in still. here's the initial oil work as it stands right now note to self: don't forget to pinwash gear bays.

Dansk
Yay I finished her. I noticed post photos that I need the straighten the nose gear door, and unfortunately theres some marks on the inner canopy that should have been cleaned (i shouldnt have glued it in really. lesson learnt). but otherwise it came out ok i think. Thanks to those who chimed in with advice and comments and to our host @Corsairfoxfouruncle 🙏👍
