Brad Cancian Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Hello all – here’s another completion just off the bench; a ‘What if” Fokker Dr.1 seaplane, based on the 1/48 Eduard Dr.1 kit. This one was just for a bit of fun (so apologies to those who aren’t fans of ‘what if’ subjects). I added floats, extended the cowl to fit a Oberursel Ur.III twin row rotary engine (from Small Stuff; this engine is a kit in itself), added a vertical stabiliser, added some cockpit details, and replaced the guns with some from Gaspatch. I also scratch built the beaching trolleys and trestles. The German naval lozenge is from Aviattic, and decals are from the Eduard kit and the spares box. Some in-progress pics (the full build log is here - https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=12812.0 ) This was an enjoyable little project, and looks rather unique in the display cabinet. Thanks for looking! Cheers, BC 59 5

GiampieroSilvestri Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Very, very, very nice!!! ...but I think a ship would have been faster than this Dreidecker.🙂 Saluti Giampiero 2
Pete Robin Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 It's totally convincing! Super work. Regards Pete
Richard E Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 That's the sort of WHIF which, if you presented it in a display at a show, an "expert" (weighed down by large rucksack of course) would probably tell everyone all about its successful service history with the Kriegsmarine during the First World War.
Autle Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Not my speciality at all but this is a great looking model. A really interesting subject a superbly executed, well done.
Bell209 Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Another great model - great to see another one coming off the bench!
Brad Cancian Posted July 25, 2022 Author Posted July 25, 2022 Thanks for the feedback everyone! Glad to get something off the bench...! Cheers, BC
Toryu Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Great idea, and very well excuted! It would need a sack of ballast in the tail, but it looks perfectly airworthy 😉
providence Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Wonderfull work, what a great idea for a what if. Regards Providence
Brad Cancian Posted July 27, 2022 Author Posted July 27, 2022 Thank you again everyone! I really appreciate the kind feedback. Cheers! BC
AdrianMF Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Not so much “what if” but “why not”! Great idea (Albatros had the W.4 after all), good thinking about the double row engine for extra power and beautiful scheme with the naval lozenges. And immaculately modelled too. Regards, Adrian
Dave Slowbuild Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Love the concept, and superbly executed. A triumph! Dave
Celestialsphere Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Very nice indeed, and totally believable! How about a flying boat Gotha G.V next…? Cheers Andrew
Jochen Barett Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 I'm not too much of a ‘What if”-fan but this lovely one just makes me smile!
Wulfman Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Lovel it, a beautiful build and a great whif ! Wulfman
