Bengalensis
Having made the decision on the individual car to build, FRE 517K, one from the original Bond Bug brochure, I had to make small adjustments to the "700ES", and then I could finish off the last decals and finally make the prints. This time the black ribbon behaved perfectly.

Bengalensis
Just got a pic of the first batch of printed parts, I'm quite excited getting to work on them. I should have them here by the weekend, and then some real progress can continue.
Bengalensis
I got the printed parts delivered yesterday, now some "real" work can continue. After some intricate cleaning up this morning I now have this set of parts to work with. I will copy the files into a revision 2 stage as several will need dimensions increased a little towards more "kit like" parts, to make repeatable printing of a full set reliable. First I need to see how everything will fit, or not fit.
Bengalensis
Test fitting parts and some assembly has started. First the wiper. Fuel cap. Wing mirrors. Hand brake and gear lever. Now things start to get serious and I have to fit and refit the frame in exactly the same position each time. I inserted four small metal pins and drilled the locating points in the bodyshell. Then setting up the rear track width for permanent gluing of the brake shields and drums to the rear axle. At this point the suspension arms are still loose on the axle, but with a relatively tight fit, for further adjustment.

I'm very happy with the parts so far, although some are quite thin and fragile.
Bengalensis
The suspension arms were located as well as possible on the axle and the wheel base checked against the bodyshell to drill locating holes for the lower arms on each side of the frame. Then with the frame placed at the correct height the arms were glued to the frame. Holes for the shock absorbers top mounts were drilled to fix the height of the axle firmly and the arms were then finally glued to the axle. Holes for diagonal link were drilled and the link installed and to finish it off I made the anti-roll bar. There is the finished rear suspension. And a little check with the body and frame mated together.

Bengalensis
The front suspension was also glued at ride height with the frame supported as before. With the shock absorber and steering linkage fitted the chassis is ready for paint. Wheels and engine dry fitted. The frame dry fitted into the bodyshell. What remains to make now is the exhaust system. I think I will paint everything and install the engine and frame properly first, it will make it easier, hopefully. The usual check of the final setup.

Bengalensis
Painting has begun. The orange (to be) body parts have received a coat of 2K primer and all the other parts have had their basic colours sprayed. As usual this stage just looks like a lot of pinned parts stacked onto foam blocks...

Bengalensis
More painting today. Orange base sprayed in the morning. I had to take the main tub in two sessions to make it possible to handle. That dried quite soon so I could turn it around and mask the other way and spray. It's a bit different to paint from ordinary cars. The decals for the mud flaps and license plates were applied and set aside to dry before a coat of varnish. There has also been some brush detail painting going on. I'm quite pleased with the Exacton rear wheels, now waiting for their centre cap decals. Late in the afternoon I even managed to spray the clear coat over the orange base. This will now have to cure for a while before some tricky masking has to be done. The black rear hatch and the "door" sections are one thing, but masking the seats for spraying I'm not looking forward to...
keefr22
Nice orange! Funnily enough I was cutting and polishing my orange Mk2 Escort model again today. Taking me a while as I decided against clearcoating this time, so going a lot more carefully ro try and avoid burning through the paint (again, this is the second time I've sprayed it!! 🤣) Lovely looking shine on yours already Jörgen Keith

Clearcoating was the easy way out here, as so much of the interior is painted orange.
Bengalensis
The tiny decals have been placed on the rear wheels and steering wheel. The engine has also been completed and fitted into the frame. Fitting the carburettor and air cleaner had to be done with some care, testing against the bodyshell and engine cover, as it's a very tight fit. The wheels are only dry fitted here.
