Belkits Skoda Fabia S2000 rally car

Recommended Posts

Another Belkits build , this time a works Skoda Fabia S2000 rally car from the 2012 International Rally Challenge

, a short lived , but well supported rally series . This car is driven by Finn Juho Hanninen . It has a 2 litre non turbo engine and 4 wheel drive . I’ve now built a few Belkits and regular followers will know I find them annoying and satisfying at the same time to build ; poor instructions and over complicated parts fitment my main grumbles . However , most of the parts do fit really well and the end result is really excellent .

A full build story is on the WIP section of the forum , here’s the finished photo call .

My Belkits experience isn't as extensive as yours, but I know exactly where you're coming from. We've already said about how the build experience of this and the Fiesta are similar - not the easiest kits to put together, but as you've proved here you can end up with a good looking end result without needing to cut and carve every piece. Wheels are looking nice and straight too!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the RS200 when it finally comes out (and I can't believe you would resist that one).

I will definitely be building the RS200 whenever it appears . There's so much rally car building to be done in the future I might have to try to keep extending my sick notes !

Superb! These are still used in the Belgian Rally Championship. I saw them somewhere on TV recently, 'Sporty Stuff' channel on Sky, I think.

Thanks Pat .I've seen some of these Skodas used on events local to me . They sound great , with  very high revving engines . Skoda have just started using the latest Fabia as an R2 /R5 rally car , and will be the class leader again. In my opinion the WRC should take a step back and let these less complicated cars become the top class , more manufacturers would then become involved .

@Vesa Jussila I did the belts on the Skoda differently to my usual way . I used the belt decals on the front of the seats and then I used a red marker pen to colour a strip of masking tape which I then cut into 3mm strips to form the longer lengths to their anchor points. These then stuck easily through the seat and under the decals . I used some PE buckles to detail . Making up seatbelt/ harnesses is very fiddly , but rewarding when done . I find ribbon too flexible and frays too much .

  Good luck

I think they should take a step way back - and let Mk2 Escorts etc become the top class again! I'd go out and watch it again then! 🤣

Can't wait till September when the rally cars are back out in the Yorkshire forests .

I must say that I am missing more manufacturers in racing. Current cars are just too complex.

They could still have hybrid R5 cars , without the expensive aeroparts ( which get ripped off anyway ) and space frame chassis.  Much cheaper and would encourage more makes .

Real nice model. I bet the bumper is the first thing to go on these, it's so low. Want to see how these are delivered before being modified. Are they completely stock from a dealer or are they specially built at the factory on it's own line? That's the thing they never show.

I see that there is no Great Britain event this year on the WRC calendar!

Thanks for the interest.  When new the Skoda , like most modern  rally cars , are built at a specific  rally car building facility or an approved preparation company. Think Prodrive for Subaru or M Sport for Ford . Parts are then available to keep the cars running  . Engines and transmissions are usually sent back to the builders for regular rebuilds and services , so not  cheap , even for a lower level of rally car .

Sadly Pat I think we have seen the passing of the Rally GB ( or R.A.C  or the Lombard ! ) as we fondly remember it . Government funding means rallies in other parts of the world get the knod

over privately funded rallies , no matter the history and reputation of the old school rallies . At least we still have our memories of chasing rally cars around the country for a week !

That looks smart, I like the look of these later WRC cars, I should track some down, builds like this make them look very tempting. 👍

Steve.

Thanks Steve . The WRC is heading back down your way at the end of September .

Cool, thanks. I guess a lot of the car must be stock production parts.

Good and bad....!! :)

Chester racecourse 1995 springs to mind . And Gwyndaf Evans Senior storming the A1 at well over 100mph at 2am with a Sierra estate chase car in hot pursuit  !

The RS200 has turned into a unicorn kit before it’s been released 🤣🤣🤣
