1/48 F-15E, 494th Fighter Squadron, 'Inherent Resolve', 2018. Finished 14/10.

Recommended Posts

A good bit of progress over the weekend. Flat coat and some weathering was up first. I used a mixture of Abteilung oils, dry brushing and Tamiya weathering sets. Once I was happy, I popped in the FOD inserts and fitted the targeting pods, pylons, exhausts, landing gear and some probes. A note on the latter, swap part F14 and F15 round, same with F12 and F13. They fit a particular way and the instructions have them back to front.

Getting there. Happy with how it's looking now, despite the build being a bit of pain at times! I've since fitted the wheels and will leave them to cure overnight. Hoping to get the rest of the ordnance fitted tomorrow.

More soon and stay safe

Just a little work to do with the cockpit parts, seats etc then that'll be this one done.

Really looking the business now!

Thanks all! I mentioned before but it's hard to beat the look of a bombed up Mudhen.

Making me want to start another

Remaining few details added over the last couple of days so I'm calling it done!

I'm a bit torn with this kit. On the one hand, the surface details are very good as is the cockpit amongst other parts. However, there are quite a few areas which, in my opinion, aren't the best for a £70 plus kit:

1. Lack of centre pylon is a mystery (this may have been corrected for later boxings)

2. Poor fit of both front and rear fuselage join

3. Poor intakes in both fit and dimensions

4. Some errors in instructions

That being said, would I build another? Yes, absolutely. I have 3 more E models and a C in the stash. A little time, effort and concentration and you'll get a lovely model. Just make sure to find a centre pylon . As always, thanks to all who commented on/followed the build.

Cheers and stay safe

Great build - interesting that there is the  same nose to fuselage issues as I’ve experienced with the Academy builds II completed - everyone thought the GWC Eagles would be better engineered - is the Revell a better build @DaveJL?

Having watched the deployment videos and coming from the village I do think you’ve captured the on tour Mudhen - great stuff!

Thanks all!

@Tim Moff, I'd say the Revell kit is easier to build, not as much work needed on seam lines etc but to bring it up to a modern spec Eagle, you do need to add a lot of bits that the GWH kit has as standard. Also the latter has posable ailerons, flaps and horizontal stabilisers, something which the Revell kit doesn't.
