F-5A, Kinetic 1/48

And, now for a little colour on the F-5A.

The underside of this machine has a large maple leaf, which is on the decal sheet, but might prove difficult to manage.

I have some Frisk film, bought for the F-5E, but decided it'd be useful here.

Masking the whole maple leaf in one go would be doable, but, not easy to manage.
Seems the original airframe was broken down for painting.  The colour demarcation can be seen here (link).

Any way, maple leaf started (includes overspray)

Thanks James.

More red, but getting there; the white needs retouching, and there will be other colours (jet exhaust and some details), but the painting is (should be) nearly done.

With masking in place:

I wanted to move the right (starboard, upper) wing's maple leaf, so this will be the heaviest re-touch (white over red, worrying).

And, with the masking removed.

Somewhere along the way, the rudder went AWOL; this I can deal with later.

That really is a great choice of scheme!

Thanks, James, the scheme is lovely.

The decals? Less so.
The decals are dated 1991, so age may have affected them, and they are the sort printed on a continuous carrier.
I think one, and only one, behaved as I would wish.
The rest broke on removal from the carrier, or, in one mysterious case, after it was settled in place nicely.

This is the starboard side.  Looks OK

A good colour match between the red paint and the red decals.  Any problems can be repaired with a spot of paint.

The port side however ...
This moose head, which should have been easy, rolled up before shattering.

Part of his (her?) antler is missing.  I'd probably get away with that.

The following 'Canada' decal went on beautifully, no issues at all.

Or not in the application.  Don't know how I did that, but it is shattered, and, by the time I found that, had settled onto the model immovably.

That can, probably, be solved, but not before Sunday.

This, I'm afraid, won't make the gallery.

That sounds like quite a nightmare. I think you're right about the moose head, I didn't notice the missing piece until you pointed it out. It’s a shame it won’t make the gallery, but hopefully it won’t be long after that until it’s done.
