Lockheed CP-140 Aurora - 140111, 405 'Eagle' Squadron, 14 Wing, Greenwood, Nova Scotia

Romeo Alpha Yankee

Recommended Posts

I will be attempting the Haseagwa P-3 as a CP-140.

I have a number of decal sheets for the CP-140 and will be attempting a Fincastle Trophy participant, so a little extra bling will be added to the standard grey scheme.

Pictures to follow shortly. If I do get this done in time and mojo is still going then I will have a crack at a Bombardier RJ.

Watching this build, for sure!

I grew up about an hour's drive from Greenwood and my aunt lived a few miles away from the airbase, in the small town of Kingston.

One of my earliest childhood memories is of a large aircraft flying over our backyard. I think it was a Canadair CP-107 Argus.

Some progress to report,

Since I have built a few of these P-3 kits now I don't follow the instructions. I started with despruing the parts

Being a newer mould kit there is some flash to clean up, mainly on the wing, engine and prop parts

Some basic assembly started on the engines and cockpit bulkheads

and the cockpit parts.  Some of the sonobuoy tubes had to be filled for the CP-140 as well

adding the decals

Back filled the wing weapons pylon mounting holes

I have had an Eduard update set lying around so I decided I would use some of it on this build, here is the process of adding the main wheel wells, the other has to be done

Getting on with the other main wheel well, broke out the Mission Master etch bender, I got it about 15 years ago and have hardly used it

And it needed some persuasion to get the wing closed up ( more so that the other side.

The wing and tailplanes were fitted and it is now looking like the P-3/CP-140

Once the glue sets there will be some seam work to tidy up.

Coming along nicely! That Eduard set looks quite comprehensive.

Cheers

Cheers John,

Yes there certainly is a lot there, I probably won't use a lot of it. I have a few more kits in the stash I can use the parts not going on this one so it won't go to waste.

Hey mate

Looking good..

Sorry a little bit off topic..

I was looking up a400m and came accross your previous build..

Did you still happen to have the original decal sheet.. and would you be prepared to part with it as i am struggling to find one..

I just picked up this model but got the newer version but would like to build it as the test military scheme..

Hopefully you dont mind me asking and fingers crossed you can help..

Thank you

Moving along slowly here, had a big filling and sanding session getting all the engine nacelles sorted

I also masked and added the larger clear parts

I need to sort out the nose wheel well detail and add the antenna in prep for some painting.

Looking good Ray. I built one of these about 40 years ago - it really is about time I got round to building another!

Thanks Julian, this is P-3 No. 9 for me, with this and another still two in work. Well actually, No. 11 if you count the kit I butchered trying to convert to an Electra (bad resin in the conversion set) quite a few years ago.
