Lighten oil filter?

I have a 1/35 Panther G that has received an oil paint filter over camouflage.  I am quite happy with it.  The gloss varnish before the oil filter darkened the colour scheme; the oils a bit more so.  I just want to lighten everything now, say by 5%.  What would people recommend.  I don't think a white oil filter would work.  A matt varnish might...

A matt varnish will usually lighten it a bit. You could also try a light airbrush dusting of a Buff/Deck Tan colour to lighten and add a hint of weathering?!

Thanks @Stef N.  I'll give that a go.  But will try a white oil filter first, which I have tested on part of the tank with some success.
