A T.I.D. Tug in 1/144 by Neomega Resin or Jon's Tiddler

Recommended Posts

I have to say I have really enjoyed building this lovely little kit, I can honestly say I'm quite pleased with it.

Not a difficult build, by any means. I was bit worried about the weathering, as it's not my most favourite process, so I hope I've done enough/ not over done it. I've done the water a bit dull to try and portray the tiddler in a polluted harbour.

Paint was ColourCoat.......as always they were excellent.

NARN43.....Deck

NARN44.....Wheel house deck

NARN46....Deckhouse

C03...........Inside of the gunwales, wheelhouse and mast.

C02..........Hull

The water was done with.....

Ammo MIG Acrylic Water...Slow River A.MIG.2204 & Lake Waters A.MIG.2202

AK Interactive...Water Foam AK8036

I'm still pondering whether to try to add black smoke coming from the funnel, if I do, I'll update here.

There a few piccy's, I hope you like them.

Very nicely done.

I am not really much of a marine subject modeler but I do have a have a soft spot for tug boats and following your build has given me the itch - never say never.

cheers, Graham

I bet it was therapeutic not having to paint everything gre

It was and also good to be able to choose a colour that was unlikely to cause offence or dispute :giggle:

Now that is a proper boat, excellent job and weathering is spot on - definitely doesn't look like she's recently been raised from the depths and just enough to know she's been a busy lass.

Hope the mark I eyeballs found this useful to return back to normal service. What's next?

After a 1/700 build this build was positively HUGE.

The keel of a Clyde Puffer is soon to be layed in the dry dock, photos soon.

Very nice little scene but tell me please what T.I.D. stands for?

Ah, well, now, um, funny you should ask........

But, no one really seems to know, so here are some of the suggestions....

Tug Invasion Duties

Tug Invasion Duty

Tug Inshore Defence

Tug Inshore Duties

Tug Inshore & Dock

Tug In Dock

Tug Intermediate Design

Tug Inland Developed

Tug Inland Distribution

Temporary Invasion Design

They were involved with D Day and the Mulberry Harbour and it’s been suggested that one or two actually had a dazzle camouflage scheme.

I based mine on a post war ship/boat.

Also it is suggested that it simply short for ‘TIDDLER’.

They were originally designed as a ‘hostilities only’ vessel, which far exceeded is expected life span. Something us Brits are really good at, make something that is supposed to be temporary and it’ll last for ever, make something that is supposed to last forever and it falls to bits in a couple of years

So, what T.I.D. or TID, either format is acceptable, stands for is a moot point.

The choice is yours, nobody will argue.
