Good idea to label on trays. I can't imagine doing a parallel build like this without mindlessly snipping everything off and ending up with a frankenspit.

Absolutely why I did it as I can be less than sensible at times. :D

Alistair

I managed a couple of spare hours this morning to apply some photoetch and paint some details.

Only one set of pictures as they are both pretty much the same.

The compass still needs a little black paint around the body but after that there will be some washing and dry brushing and then I can get them glued together and start building the thing.

Thanks for looking,

Not much time today, just a clear coat and some Tamiya Brown Panel Liner applied,

Once that is dry tomorrow I'll apply a wee dry brush and get down to some gluing.

Thanks for looking,

Lovely work on the cockpit so far.  I wish I'd been aware of your build earlier!  I have this very same set sitting next to my bench scheduled to be built (a double build as well) sometime before year's end.

The Eduard kit is terrific... by far one of the best kits I've ever made.  I'll warn you though, that the tolerances are tight and I had a devil of a time getting the two fuselage halves together.  I'd recommend going over the mating surfaces of your cockpit assembly with sandpaper and doing some careful dry fitting! :D

Thanks very much for the tip.

I'll need to pay a bit more attention than usual. :D

My eyes are about birlin' after this mornings little escapade.

The cockpit has been fitted and the fuselage joined.

I got lucky as I only had to scrape the paint off the mating surfaces and everything went together nicely.

Then I started on the wheel wells and this was where it got interesting.

First of all I cut the wrong bottom wing off and drilled holes which will need to be filled. No big deal.

Got the right part out and fitted the wheel well parts with care as there are different parts for the C and the E.

This is the Mk. IXe wing.

I think that is it for today I'll get the MK.IXc up to the same point tomorrow and we may have something that looks like a Spitfire at the end of that.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

Great progress Alistair, it can get like that foing multiple  builds, especially of the same types. Well overcome and great to see it coming together, looking good fella.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

Thing is it'll be so much easier on the other one as I've done the hard bit on this one.

Thanks so much Q,

That is extremely kind of you.

I've been lucky with the last few as they went together really well.

Thanks Chris,

Having an issue with the wing to fuselage fit on the Mk.IXc and it must be something I've done but it's nothing that a little scraping, sanding and filling won't solve. :D

Nice to see the wing fit. There's something deeply tactile about seeing a small, sharply tooled spitfire kit fitting together really nicely. I suddenly want to make one too.
Andy

Thanks Andy,

That's the felling I get watching other builds.
