Monogram ex-Aurora Aston Martin DB4 1:25

Recommended Posts

This update could be titled, Putting the boot in.

I wasn't happy with the way the battery is visible in the boot, not only did this seem unsafe it didn't seem to match pictures I've seen of the real cars.  So I decided to make an enclosure and an extended boot floor.

I've used styrene sheet and some "L" section to make an enclosure and support for the boot floor.

Test fitting, I think with a coat of paint it should look OK.

I couldn't resist seeing what the luggage looked like in the boot.

And here's a mock-up with the front brakes/hubs fitted and it definitely puts the front wheels in a much better place.

If you want some more Aston Martin DB4 content, I watched this video earlier:

Although progress has slowed a little the Aston is still coming together.

One carpeted boot floor.

With the boot floor inserted into the body.

There was a bit of a hitch when I realised that the grille should have gone in from the inside before the body and chassis were joined.  Fortunately I was able to slide it in from underneath.

Rear lights are painted, the doors are assembled and (hopefully) the boot lid is attached.

Thanks for following.

The end is near.

Fitting the sidelights and indicators, one of the sidelights disappeared.

Fortunately I had these, purchased for just such an emergency.

Not a perfect match but passable.

Guess what, while fitting the windscreen and headlamps the missing sidelight appeared on the end of this cocktail stick.  I didn't like the open-backed headlamps, so they were plugged with circles of styrene sheet and painted with chrome before adding the lenses.

That's much better, I've also rechromed the front bumper and added the fog lamps.

Very smart - looking forward to seeing her up on the wheels.

The glue is setting as I type, I have to say that it's looking rather splendid.

Well, it kind of went a bit wrong.

The windscreen started to pull out of the glue.

Then the dashboard fell out, but that gave me a chance to fix a finger print that I noticed in the top of the dashboard.

This is probably the best picture of the car, wheel spinners in place, door mirror is from a Tamiya Mini Cooper S.

Then the windscreen cracked.  At least the nose badge went on well.

The boot badge broke up but I've pieced it together as best I could.  The number plates were cut from the decal sheet and just glued to the body with tiny drops of PVA as I didn't trust them not to break up and I quite fancied the Swiss number plates.

So sorry the windscreen cracked. Sadly, I too am a member of that club. Otherwise, she's looking like the thoroughbred she is...

I do like that color, it's close to the last I saw of DB4/106/L.

Oh, that's nasty with the wind screen... Especially as the hole thing really came together so very nicely towards the end.

I hope there is a chance of working towards a rescue with another wind screen solution, one way or the other, when it all settles down a little. The model is very nice and deserves it.

A lot of struggles and challenges that you've had to overcome. Most would have quit and chucked everything back in the box where it would have languished until thrown out. Kudos to you for your doggedness! You've got me inspired to tackle the same kit.
