Hi WP.

Pretty much;

p?i=a120e6912ce5e9241622fc3f5f260d4d

  • All of the parts are photo etched bespoke from my drawings
  • I lightly tack the main section to the wall so I can manipulate to get vertical and straight
  • Then add the two side strips to form the T Section; then run some Zap A Gap down to fill gaps to make them look as one
  • Finally, the grooved top piece is added after a slight role to curve the parts; more so of course at the back.

For the pure amongst us, I know for of the main joining sections were 'C' Sections but thought that a step too far, particularly as two will not be really seen at the back...

Thank you for the explanation and the photo 👍

I am extremely grateful to have 'obtained/afforded' one of these kits.

I've squirreled it away for a far-future build, when my appetite for negotiating complexity has more time to improve a bit.

The kit doesn't have a 'fully detailed interior' - whatever it says on the box - I saw the early revues and wasn't deterred. It's still amazing.

However, as you know, the middle section of the fuselage interior has the ends of the kit ammo belts to the rear turret floating in space:

the ammo storage boxes over the bomb bay aren't rendered.

Since I want the rear crew door left open, some much less ambitions scratch building on the interior will be required on my part when the time comes.

Probably utilizing Evergreen plastic strips, like I've also seen used on this forum. Thanks again for providing another benchmark 👍

Well it sounds like an amazing project; but I'm another who never gets to see the photo's :( It’s the same on my iPad pro and MacBook Air and I’ve got very good broadband download speed n’all.  Never mind, good luck with it anyway :D

UK Aircraft Explored on Youtube has been invaluable in working out the cable runs and types.

Yes, agreed it is a fascinating series looking in detail at different areas of the Lanc including videos on each crew station, exploration of the fuselage, flying controls, undercarriage, fuel systems etc. using extracts from the wartime Air Ministry Pilot’s Notes. UK Aircraft Explored

I've just got the Border Models Lancaster nose kit to start work on and there's a great thread that's also helpful in understanding the equipment fitted and structure of the nose area for those of us modelling this area.

Totally agreed!

That is my main source of material apart from too many trips to museums!

With many thanks to Mike, I have been working on my photos...

Have washed through size reducing software.

Can someone let me know if the downloads are better?

Many thanks

I could view them before, after a fashion. Now they appear to load immediately for me.

I have just come across this and I am intrigued by your determination to build three such iconic aircraft in one attempt . . . .

I also note that you are going to build some vehicles and even a Watch office; all in the large scale.

32nd-Nissen-hut-008.jpg

Converted the Tamiya  Austin to a Hillman

Bedford QL as a crew transport

OIL bowser scratch built

Engine trestles scratch built

Ground crew Nissen scratch built

Compressor trailer scratch built

Also converted the AFV Matador 4x4 to the 6x6 refueller

Scratch-AEC-Camouflage-2.jpg

Completed and modified the IconicAir David Brown tractor along with scratch built the bomb trolleys

DB-Tractor-with-bombs-5.jpg

The Watch Office that was at Scampton at the time of the Dams attack, (1959/34) was the pre-war design(see photo) whereas the Watch Office at Woodhall Spa (later home to 617) had a design of Watch office similar to the Bomber satellite type ; somebody has attempted the latter model of it at the 'Thorpe Camp' museum at Woodhall Spa.

RAF-Grimsby-history-007.jpg

I have a 4mm plan of the 1959/34 which you could easily scale up to 32nd (9.5mm ). No internal detail although I have some photos of the central spiral staircase.

Carry on the great work

Steve, you’re one of my favourite modellers on this planet! As always your work is incredible.

So glad I found this thread. Makes me want to get back to my 24th Mossie again!

Cheers Anthony

Anthony!

Great to hear from you sir!

Been a while...

Also seen your work on the 1/24th Mozzy since our exchange, most impressive.

My Mozzy Projects is in suspended animation until this project is sorted but will most certainly be in touch mate.

Cheers

Steve

Hello one and all!

Hope you are well...

So, here is what seems to be my monthly check-in...

Firstly, am the only one to think that the words Longeron and Stringer are brilliant words?

Got to be up there with flange, right? :rofl:

The reason, I have gone a little Longerons and Stringers crazy...

Been doing my usual research and I have learnt what primary systems were installed into the Lanc's before painting and what systems were added after...

My three ladies are now ready for their forward paint jobs;

Here is the Lancaster B.I

  • Please note the flak damage on the rear window, sustained in late '44 over France
  • Full systems in this one

p?i=3944e323b4be73152c2d20d67afc35a5

Here is the Lancaster B.I (Special) – Grand Slam;

  • The Services to the Front Turret are not installed
  • The Stick Bombs Panel and other systems were removed, hence the location holes in the panels

p?i=a097f5901c3fb249c5ad59bc65535a20

Here is the Lancaster B.III (Special);

  • Bombing Computer has been removed, I just left the frame as a feature
  • Camera has been replaced by the front height spotlight

p?i=e5f38073157e8ff2219a8e9791d18954

p?i=d8401885d89968d9834f54c921eac6a9

p?i=142e47c64f30b8b8ff95f081573f2971

In other news;

The electrics are starting to creep in;

p?i=75c5e798ff553b69ef8219d31c5a229e

The Rear Internal Sections are now done;

Here is the Lancaster B.III (Special);

Here is the Lancaster B.I

p?i=493f9a97e94dc8acff2a9dc137be34f0

Here is the Lancaster B.I (Special) – Grand Slam;

The Grand Slam will be crewed and ready to taxi with the door closed so no internals except what you can see from the rear turret.

p?i=fa3a9a1704f91b7350e5de060c8bad88

I have also blanked up the cabin windows on the Grand Slam;

p?i=0c7c37db7d0f812a89c309bfa35705f0

Finally, managed to get to the bottom of the accuracy of the Thumper Decals; now I have to sort out a bulged bomb bay!

Hope you like what I have done so far...

Very much so. Bigger means more detail. Always a good thing. I see what you mean about the ammunition runs for the rear turret.

How about these : cleats ( they tie the longerons to the stringers ) or skin plates - doublers and trippplers? I love OML Outer Mold Line and IML Inner Mold Line.    😃

Hello All,

I know I have been posting Lanc's in threes but to be honest, I underestimated just how long it would take to furnish one inside!!

So, this is to prove I am still alive 😜

I present to you first then, Thumper;

p?i=7ffaa1afbc4830ddc2051f437389b38a

All the internal equipment is pretty much all 3D Printed or photo etched.

Since starting, Quinta Studio brought out their sets so took out a second mortgage and bought three sets.

Worth it?

I think so, up to you to judge...

So, time to put the bomb bay and floor in plus electrics!

In other news, finished my next Diorama piece, the Pillbox;

Thought I would share some final photos of the fuselage halves before I button her up;

She is fully electrically connected too now; going to be fun burying this lot :banghead:

It seems such a shame to "button her up." You could spend hours just admiring the internal detail. When you display them, why not in front of a montage of these photos, rather like a real aircraft restoration project?

Wow!

Now there's a thought of a project!

Just Jane maybe? 🤔😊

Down the road of my Airfield Diorama but it's now on my bucket list 🫡👊

Cheers
