JeroenS
This afternoon I primed the tank / rack and painted Semi Gloss Black. I just brushed 2 or 3 thin coats of Vallejo Alu on it, needs 1 or 2 more but you get the idea.
JeroenS
The tank is on. Now, just some suzie wires, but I'll do those when the trailer is on. And some diamond plate on the chassis to cover the engine / transmission.

JeroenS
Time to start work on the trailer. The idea is that build #1 will be transported on it, so it has to be quite big. It's sturdy enough like this. The axles are simple affairs for now. I glued some shims at the ends so they would fit the wheels. The plan is to get the axles attached in some way first, then build up things like leaf springs around them. Not much will be seen, I don't think I'll bother too much. Something like this. At the front, which is the left in the picture, will be a raised platform which will rest on the tractor. So it will be bigger still.
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Maybe an “A”-frame rigid mount for the axles.
busnproplinerfan
Not familiar with the axles on these low trailers.

But it's so low that it probably won't be seen, so I don't know yet what I'll do. I have some resin air bags, maybe I'll use those, could be easier. busnproplinerfan
Whose to say it wasn't a homemade trailer. I've pictures of that done far up north where you use whatever you have.
JeroenS
I don't have a whole lot to do today... The plan is to maybe take a nap in the afternoon, and go out to dinner this evening with some friends. That's about it. I'm sure I'll be able to fit in some building time in that busy schedule 🙂 I started out by "squaring up" the axles. Which is to say, I glued them in some square tubing. This should make things a whole lot easier down the road. Then I cooked up some quick and dirty leaf springs. And it all should come out a little like this. I gave the trailer its actual chassis. I can now start on the leaf spring / axle mounts.

JeroenS
Good progress today, I'm about ready for dinner 🙂 This is halfway, mounting the axles. Completed. I have the front part ready as well, now just need to figure out how high the vertical piece between these two needs to be. That's for tomorrow.
JeroenS
The front part is on. It's starting to look like what I had in mind. As you can see this thing is huge and it's an absolute disaster to photograph! It's sitting a little low on the fifth wheel but that's because I haven't made the kingpin yet. It should work out in the end. Now, there's a lot more plastic to add, but I'm glad to have the basic shape. This is going to take up some shelf space.
JeroenS
We've had a busy day in the shop 🙂 ... I may do some more work tonight but I'm done for now. I went downstairs and got a large piece of board to use as a photo backdrop, it's hard to photograph this thing. I added a lot more to the basic shape. The next steps are finishing the diamond plating, then adding some plating to the sides.
busnproplinerfan
Looks big but you can fit three models in the place of two.
JeroenS
I'm calling done for today, this was a very productive weekend as I had little else to do. You have to have these weekends every now and then. She's all plated up, except for some of the connecting pieces on the sides, near the vertical piece and near the sloping piece. It's still a little rough in places but it will work out fine with a bit of trimming etc.
JeroenS
Some photo's from the bench tonight, I couldn't be bothered to lug that thing to the other side of my room 🙂 I finished the side plating, here and here And, I think this is pretty cool, you can see the trailer is sitting on the fifth wheel using the kingpin I fabricated. The pin slides right into the gap in the fifth wheel and then sinks onto it. It's not entirely correct yet, the pin is a bit long and the first ring needs to fit into the fifth wheel as well. Then, more card around the widest ring, this is what will actually rest on the fifth wheel. The pin is farther back then I had thought so the existing card will need to be extended a bit as well. Then I just need to make trailer legs at the right height and I can back the Benz into the trailer, making vroom vroom noises.
busnproplinerfan
The vroom vroom definetly helps. If you want to add fifth wheel grease. I made some before from vaseline and dark brown acrylic paint. It's a bit clear unless you add a lot of paint. I had to onetime paint dark streaks on the trailer side. Nice thing is, it's always slimy.
JeroenS
@busnproplinerfanThe vaseline is a good idea, bit sticky maybe but I'll remember it. I usually make it with white glue and pigments.
JeroenS
Alright, improved kingpin... It sits very nicely now. Next up, toolboxes (I have a nice resin one somewhere, and I'll make the rest), ramps and then stuff like the connectors, some details here and there etc. I think I'll start with the ramps.

JeroenS
A ramp in the making. I don't think I'll make them movable but they would look something like this. I'll most likely attach them in the upright position, there's more detail to show. I have to make another one like this, then add detail and make it so I can paint and attach them separately.
