A Refugee from Nest Cottage - Trumpeter 1/48 Sea Hornet NF.21

Recommended Posts

I believe that this kit is, shall we say, less than accurate and, as so, probably unbuildable.;)

So, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Build the unbuildable straight OOB.:D

If I end up with something vaguely Hornet shaped that'll do for me.

Hi Alistair

I have no experience of this kit but I’m sure being Trumpeter it will go together ok. As you say it might just not be the right shape in a few places.

I’ll follow along if that’s ok as a Trumpeter Hornet is on my to build list purely because it’s only injection moulded one out there.

Look forward to some progress b

Hi James,

Welcome aboard,

The comment about being unbuildable was supposed to be humorous. It's been a day of fails for me. :D.

As I say if it looks vaguely like the box art it'll do for me.

I've built one Trumpeter kit before, the Sea Vixen, and the fit on that was really good so I'm expecting this to be similar.

Heading out to fling some paint about soon so hopefully more later.

Cheers,

Alistair

Blimey Alistair another one on the go, I think @corsaircorp is a bad influence on you!!!

Looking forward to this one fella, as James said will ho together okay being a Trumpeter kit, the cockpit might be slightly strange although you never know it might be fine.

Chris

As you are no doubt now aware there is a reason for this.

It's Trumpeter it'll go together fine, just don't look too closely at the shape. :wicked:

Cheers,

Alistair

🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️

Here I'm again....

There are some points to modify but not a great deal of it...

I saved a build of it, if it is of any use....

Hey Chris, if it is a plane that use to prefer crashing on a floating post stamp.... I'll be in...

If you don't mind it Alistair !!

Yes I saw the Sunderland Post after this one, sorry about that, hope you can get sorted.

Chris

I should be able to salvage it but whether it is worth it depends on Special Hobby being able to supply a new decal sheet.

I am hopeful though.

The front office bits were primed painted and some of it glued together.

The IP decal has been hit with softener and will be gently manipulated into place then more softener if necessary.

Once that in place I'll get it all glued together, do a light dry brush and wash.

Thanks for looking,

The Pilots tub has been glued together, then given a brown wash and a grey drybrush.

Followed by a quick dry fit.

I'm fairly happy with that.

Hi Alistair,

Coming along nicely! I've nearly bought this kit several times but always hesitated due to its documented inaccuracy. Will be very interested to see what you can do with it,

Thanks Roger,

I'm not planning anything structural as I just want a nice easy build to keep the anger at bay.

Alistair

This was originally posted in the wrong thread and I've moved it here.

The Operators compartment got some treatment today.

Primed painted dry brushed and the a brown wash applied.

I'll leave all that to dry for a bit and then glue will be involved.

This time in the right thread.

The cockpit and operators compartment had glue applied and are in the fuselage.

I then stuck the other half of the fuselage on.

That may be it for tonight as we're getting visitors.

I applaud your approach! I tend to feel the same way about accuracy... in my case at least, the issues only reveal themselves if I actively go looking for them. More fun to live in blissful ignorance 😀.

Seriously though, you'd have to do some pretty nutty things to a hornet for it not to look great. (A voice inside is snarkily suggesting 'like adding a ugly AI radome to the nose', but we will ignore that guy. He's a bit of a jerk).

Thanks very much,

If the subject is personal to me i.e. something that I got a flight in then I will throw the kitchen sink at it but for pure modelling fun I just enjoy the build and if it looks ok then I'm happy.

The vast majority of folks in the "normal world" who see my stuff displayed don't know the difference anyway. :D

I'm hoping that she'll look good but it's hard to look bad in EDSG over Sky. ;)

Totally agreed Alistair...

Moreover, when one is doing a kit accurately... You will always find some "experts" that will try to prove you wrong... :rofl2:

Nice job on the fuselage Sir !!

Adjustment are looking quite good !!

Sincerely.
